The Russell Group unis where students are the most stressed and anxious right now, revealed

Number one is so rogue

University is a very stressful time. You have to make new friends, sort out your career plans, find a way to afford it all, then somehow fit in a whole degree. Well, apparently not all uni students are struggling in the same way, because people in some Russell Group uni cities are far more stressed and anxious than at others.

As part of a study into stress, the GEO agency Reboot Online worked out how many stress and anxiety diagnoses there are per 10,000 people in different parts of the UK. The places with Russell Group unis do not come out of this well.

The University of Southampton has a rep for being the blandest Russell Group uni. But it now has a claim to being the most stressed-out. In Southampton, there are a huge 3,848 cases of stress and anxiety per 10,000 people. Erm, are you okay, Soto students?

At the other end, Uni of Warwick students seem to be super calm. In Coventry (where the campus is, despite the name) there are only 241 diagnoses of stress and anxiety for every 10,000 people. Wow, maybe they’re all really into yoga and deep breathing and whatnot? We need to hear their secrets.

If your Russell Group uni doesn’t appear on this list, I didn’t forget about it – Reboot Online didn’t have the data needed to compare that place to others in the UK.

So, here are the Russell Group unis where students are the most stressed and anxious, based on the number of diagnoses of anxiety and stress per 10,000 people in that area:

18. University of Warwick – 241

17. Durham University – 382

16. University of Leeds – 545
