In full: What the Scottish girl who faked pregnancy with a doll has said in emotional confession

‘I made it up and kept it going way too far’

The bizarre case of Kira Cousins, a 23-year-old Scottish girl who faked her pregnancy and fooled her family with a realistic doll, has shocked the internet, and now she has shared a full confession explaining what really happened.

After weeks of silence, Kira admitted she had lied about being pregnant, faked scans, and pretended to give birth. She also revealed why she did what she did.

The story first went viral when her supposed “newborn daughter,” Bonnie-Leigh, was discovered to be a doll. Her mother reportedly found it in Kira’s bedroom, leading to a confrontation that exposed the truth.

In her Instagram post, Kira began by addressing the rumours spreading online, saying she wanted to “set things straight.” She said she had been in bed when her mother came into her room, discovered the doll, and called the rest of the family. Kira said she stayed by her bedroom door, refusing to come downstairs as her relatives gathered to confront her.

She explained that she had been isolating herself for weeks, keeping to herself and avoiding everyone. Kira also insisted that no one else knew what was going on, not her family, nor her ex-partner Jamie or his relatives, and said the truth only came out that Tuesday morning. She asked people to stop contacting them about it.

‘I wasn’t pregnant. There was no baby’

Kira went on to admit the full truth. She said she had made up the pregnancy and kept it going for too long.

“I wasn’t pregnant. There was no baby,” she wrote. “I made it up and kept it going way too far. I faked scans, messages, a whole birth story, and acted like a doll was a real baby,” she added. “And I know how bad it is, I just didn’t know how to stop once I started.”

She apologised directly to her cousin Neave, who had supported her throughout the fake pregnancy. “Neave, I’m so sorry. You were there for me through it all. You cried happy tears, picked me up, brought me places, believed everything I said. And you didn’t deserve to be lied to like that. None of you did; your mum, your niece, everyone who came to the gender reveal, all the people who gave me gifts or support. I f*cked up and I hurt a lot of people.” she said.

Kira also apologised to her ex-partner Jamie and his family, saying, “Jamie and his family especially I’m sorry. I made you out to be horrible people when really, I was the one in the wrong completely.”

Kira said her mental health had declined after she lost her baby, admitting her grief led to the lies. She ended her post by saying she is now getting help and taking responsibility for her actions.

“I don’t have a proper excuse. Yeah, I wasn’t in a good headspace, but that doesn’t make what I did okay,” she said. “I know this is gonna stick with me for a long time and that I’ve probably lost friends I’ll never get back. I’m trying to figure myself out and get help because this version of me isn’t someone I wanna be. I know I’ve ruined a lot of trust and that ‘sorry’ won’t fix everything but it’s all I can say right now.”

She finished by addressing her family directly, especially her brother, saying, “To my family, especially my brother, I’m sorry.”
