Scottish girl who faked pregnancy with realistic doll reveals the tragic reason she did it
‘This was not an easy thing to do’
TikTok is currently embroiled in the story of Kira Cousins, the 23-year-old from Scotland who faked her pregnancy and birth with a reborn doll.
The viral story came to light when Kira’s cousin Naeve posted the entire saga with receipts. For months, Kira shared pregnancy updates online, from bump photos to scan pictures, hospital appointments to complications with the baby’s heart. Her friends even threw her a baby shower, with one family member purchasing her a £1,000 pushchair amongst other presents.

The lies allegedly came to light after the supposed birth, when Kira’s mum grew suspicious that she wasn’t allowed to interact with the seemingly silent baby. She soon discovered that Bonnie Leigh was a reborn baby doll.
“Everybody believed Kira,” Naeve claimed in her TikTok video. “She had a gender reveal, she posted scan photos, and even said the baby had a hole in its heart. Then she texted me saying the baby was born. We were all so happy.”
Kira deleted all of her posts in response, later detailing how no one else knew the baby was fake, including her partner Jamie.

“I had been keeping myself away from literally everyone, went into my own bubble and didn’t want anyone around me at all,” she said. “My family sat me down and asked me what had happened earlier in my pregnancy which I will come out and address when I’m also ready to. Don’t for one min think either they let me away with any of this. THEY HAVEN’T.”
Kira Cousins has revealed why she lied about Bonnie Leigh

Since posting her initial statement on TikTok, Kira Cousins has posted several statements to Instagram while also going live with a friend. Though some questioned the validity of the post, because numerous fake accounts are posting phoney stories, Naeve did repost the following statement to her own story, which would suggest it was real.
On her Instagram, she said that a tragic miscarriage led to the lies.
In the post, she wrote: “So many fake profiles claiming to be me jumping on this to try get clout. This was not an easy thing to do. Yes I lied, but when I lost baby with miscarriage, I didn’t know what to do. My head wasn’t thinking straight and I couldn’t bear it. I done this because I was hurting and wanted to be a mum so badly. Yes, it was wrong, I know, but my head wasn’t in the sand with grief.”
In another post, she apologised to Naeve, who had “been there through it all” as she “picked me up, brought me places, and believed everything I said.”
She continued: “I don’t have a proper excuse. Yeah, I wasn’t in a good headspace but that doesn’t make what I did okay. I know this is gonna stick with me for a long time and that I’ve probably lost friends I’ll never get back. I’m trying to figure myself out and get help because this version of me isn’t someone I wanna be. I know I’ve ruined a lot of trust and that ‘sorry’ won’t fix everything, but it’s all I can say right now.”
More information is expected to follow as Kira unpacks the story and her motivations.
