People call out MAFS UK’s ‘double standards’ after groom ‘gets away’ with toxic behaviour

After last night’s MAFS UK commitment ceremony, people are absolutely fuming at the experts’ “double standards” towards Steven and Sarah.

When Sarah made insensitive comments about Dean’s weight, she was absolutely grilled by the experts, particularly Paul C Brunson, who brought her to tears after calling her “rude” and “disrespectful”.

However, people think Steven got off lightly in the commitment ceremony, even though his behaviour was so much worse. He lashed out at Nelly after being accused of bragging about sleeping with a woman from Raya before the experiment.

Mel Schillings calmly let Steven explain his past trauma and said this “doesn’t excuse” his behaviour because he “really hurt Nelly”. She then sided with him after he claimed his stress in his life outside the experiment is what caused him to lash out.

“Now, seeing how much pain you’re in, I think it does help us understand a little bit. You know, this is not the Steven we know,” Mel said as the groom broke down in tears.

People are fuming on Twitter, with one person writing: “How did Sarah get WAY more of a telling off for the first dinner party yet Steven brags about his sex life, calls them all c**ts, gets verbally aggressive with Nelly and calls her a f**king idiot yet a few tears and the experts are babying him. OMG THE DOUBLE STANDARDS!”

“If you do the comparison between Sarah and Steven’s bad behaviour towards their spouses, Sarah was held accountable more harshly than Steven, who was more passive-aggressive and toxic. There are clear double standards at play with experts whom they deem to hold accountable,” said another.

Steven has since apologised on Instagram, writing: “Watching yourself act like the only c*word in the room. I can only apologise wholeheartedly for my outbursts for this week of filming. Toughest time for me during filming, and emotions were running extremely high.”
