This is the most shocking part of The High School Catfish, and it’s not the texts
‘That bit had my jaw on the floor’
Everyone is still talking about Unknown Number: The High School Catfish on social media, and people think this is the most shocking part of the whole thing.
The Netflix documentary tells the true story of Lauryn Licari, who is sent thousands of texts from a random phone number. In a huge revelation, her mum Kendra is revealed to be the catfish.
Some of the texts were really nasty, but people agree that the messages aren’t actually the most shocking part of the film – it’s this line from Kendra herself.
Netflix somehow convinced the mum to be in the documentary, and there’s one thing she says at the end that’s got everyone’s “jaws on the floor”.
Trying to justify her actions, Kendra says: “A lot of us have made mistakes. Not a single one of us has lived a perfect life. And realistically, a lot of us have probably broke the law at some point or another and not got caught.
“I mean, I’ll be honest, you know. I’m sure people drove drunk, haven’t been caught, right? But again, if you get caught, you’re in the same situation I’m in but for a different thing. So I do feel like people lose sight of that.”
@catsndcars_ Sure drunk driving is absolutely the same as harassing and bullying your daughter for YEARS💀 #unknownnumber #kendralicari #laurynlicari #licari
People are in total shock that she tried to not only justify sending the texts, but also compared catfishing her own teenage daughter with horrible messages for over a year to other people’s crimes.
“That bit had my jaw on the floor. Like how this mum tried to justify what she did to not just her daughter but all the other kids is crazy!” one person said on TikTok.
Another said: “This statement made me go look for my mind, I LOST IT.”

“I may have broken a law in my lifetime, but I can say for sure I’ve never broken my daughter and never could,” someone else added.
Another commented: “No remorse… whatsoever! Diabolical … basically she’s saying if she wasn’t caught she was going to keep doing it.”
In Decmeber 2022, Kendra Licari was arrested and charged with multiple counts of stalking a minor and using a computer to commit a crime. She pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking a minor and was sentenced to 19 months behind bars.
