Applications are officially open for The Glasgow Tab’s 25/26 editorial team
We’re hiring for a TikTok Editor, Social Media Editor and News Editor
This is not a drill: Applications are officially open to join The Glasgow Tab’s 2025/26 editorial team!
From breaking news and fun features to TikTok vids detailing your uni’s latest gossip, The Glasgow Tab really covers it all. For anyone interested in a career in journalism or content creation, this is an incredible way to develop your writing skills, gain experience and build confidence.
The new team will receive training from journalists at The Tab HQ, so regardless of which year or degree you’re in, all are welcome to apply. We also encourage applications from all five universities in Glasgow.
The positions available are News Editor, TikTok Editor and Social Media Editor.
The deadline for applications is 23:59pm on Thursday 11th September.
What’s in it for me?
You’ll receive training from the team at The Tab HQ, while also gaining a range of invaluable journalistic experience. Previous editors and contributors at The Tab have gone on to work for BBC News, The Telegraph, Vogue, and more.
As an editor, you’ll even have the opportunity to write for The Tab’s national site, which gets over nine million views each month. There are biannual London get togethers for all the Tab editors too, where you’ll get hands-on training, networking opportunities and free food and drinks.
A description of each of the roles is available below. If you have questions about any of the roles, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via our Instagram.
News Editor
The Glasgow Tab prides itself on breaking the biggest local news stories, so as News Editor your main responsibility is ensuring we keep reporting on the latest campus scoops.
Most Read
This often involves reacting quickly to stories as they develop on the day. You’ll need an eye for a good story angle and an ear out for the latest news, controversies and events. It’s key to be up-to-date on what’s happening in Glasgow, whether that’s protests on campus or major university announcements.
You’ll support the Editor-in-Chief and Features Editor by writing and editing articles weekly, as well as commissioning stories to a team of writers who you’ll support through ongoing feedback. The roles of section editors aren’t black and white, so you may also be expected to regularly write and edit feature articles, too.
You’ll be covering stories like these:
- Watchdog investigating GP after he allegedly ‘harassed’ University of Glasgow rape survivor
-
Glasgow Uni’s Gilbert Scott Building vandalised with red paint days before graduation
-
Wonky, the wee lamb from Scotland’s Inner Hebrides, is inspiring people across the globe
Social Media Editor
As Social Media Editor, you’ll have creative control over our Instagram and Facebook pages. Your responsibilities will include sharing articles, creating memes about Glasgow news and student life, and posting regular content on our stories to keep followers engaged. You’ll also be the first line of contact between the audience and the rest of the editorial team, going over any messages or comments you’ve seen.
You don’t need any prior experience to apply, but being a whizz on Instagram and Facebook, along with experience using Canva, would be useful.
So, if you’re up-to-date with all the latest social media trends and want to put your daily doom scrolling to good use, this is incredible experience to have on your CV.
You’ll be making posts like these:
TikTok Editor
As TikTok Editor, you’ll be working alongside the editorial team to produce content for our TikTok page. You’ll also be in charge of monitoring the account, and collaborating with the Social Media Editor to share content across all platforms.
You need to be consistent in posting various forms of content related to online trends, Glasgow university culture, and student news.
Experience using editing software like CapCut and Canva is desirable because you’ll be using these apps to create long news videos and short clips.
If you’re confident in front of the camera, whether that’s in the form of a lighthearted vid or a serious news upload, then this is the role for you!
