It’s official: Applications for The Leeds Tab’s 2025/26 editorial team are now open

We’re recruiting for a Features Editor and a Social Media Editor

Applications are officially open for The Leeds Tab’s 2025/26 editorial team!

Open to students at all five universities in Leeds, The Leeds Tab has something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in breaking the biggest news stories on campus, delving into the latest Hyde Park and Headingley gossip, or curating the most relatable student content through memes and guides, we’ve got you covered.

For those looking to pursue a career in journalism, this is an invaluable opportunity to write for an audience of thousands of monthly readers, and previous editors and contributors have gone on to work for the BBC, The Telegraph, Vogue, ITV, the Guardian and more.

You’ll also get the chance to gain experience in interviewing, investigations and attending different events, from restaurant openings to local fashion shows.

It doesn’t matter what degree you do or what year you’re in, because you’ll receive training from experienced editors and journalists at The Tab HQ ahead of the next academic year.

Editors are also able to write commissions for our national site ,which has over nine million monthly viewers, as well as attend events at our London HQ!

The positions available are Features Editor and Social Media Editor.

So, what are we looking for?

While prior experience in journalism or a related subject is advantageous, what matters most is that you show us your passion for all things Leeds. Being a team player is essential too, because as well as collaborating with the editorial team, you’ll be supporting and guiding a team of student writers.

A description of each of the roles is available below. If you have any questions, you can get in touch via our Instagram.

Applications are open until Thursday 4th September at 23:59pm.

Features Editor

As Features Editor, you’ll be directing The Leeds Tab’s features section, covering all things student related. Whether that’s nightlife, foodie hotspots, rating library outfits or arguing over which Spoons is the best, you’ll need to be witty and creative to keep our audience entertained.

Being up-to-date on the latest trends and campus gossip is a must to know exactly what students want to read – especially ahead of annual milestones like exam seasons and holidays.

You’ll be pitching, editing and writing articles each week, as well as commissioning stories to a team of writers who you’ll support through the process.

Again, the roles aren’t black and white, so expect to sometimes write and edit news articles, too!

Social Media Editor

As Social Media Editor you’ll have creative control over our Instagram and Facebook pages.

It’s important to post regularly to keep followers engaged, so you need an eye for the latest trends for pitching fun and original ideas.

You’ll be responsible for distributing published articles on social media, alongside creating memes and interactive Instagram Stories. You’ll also be the first line of contact between the audience and the rest of the editorial team, relaying any messages or comments you’ve seen.

This role is suited to someone who loves the ins and outs of social media and content creation, is shamelessly addicted to their phone, and wants to gain some first-hand experience!

Note that experience with Canva and other editing software is essential to know how to create posts.

You’ll be making posts like these:
