Love Island’s Shakira calls Meg and Helena ‘nasty’ in savage dig weeks after the villa

Just when everyone thought the Love Island drama was in the past, Shakira has made an unexpected dig at Meg and Helena for how they treated her in the villa.

In a new interview with Yasmin and Toni for i-D, she said it’s “nasty” to “target” people and talk about them behind their back. Shakira didn’t name any names, but this is exactly what she accused Meg and Helena of doing in the villa, so it’s obvious it’s about them.

“If you say it how it is, and you’re honest, you’re called ‘a bi**h’, you’re ‘nasty’. No, I think it’s nasty to speak about someone behind their back, then rally together in groups and target them,” she said.

“We felt that massively in the changing room, the snickers, the whispers, the dirty looks. When you come around the corner and they stop talking, you feel isolated, it feels frosty, really tense, and it’s not nice.

“It wasn’t a bad edit; we tried to fix it, but that was our experience, we lived it.”

There was a massive divide in the villa this year between Meg, Helena and Megan, who were branded the “mean girls,” and Shakira, Toni and Yasmin. Even Maya Jama took her side by only following three girls after the final.

In the same interview, Yasmin said many of the girls made her “feel like an outsider”.

“That’s how [Toni and I] bonded. We felt like outsiders compared to everyone else, so when bombshells would come in after that, we would befriend them—we didn’t want anyone else to feel that way,” she claimed.

Yasmin they’re all “owning” being the outcasts, and it’s clearly working because the trio are definitely the favourites from this season.

“People might find you too much, too loud, too obnoxious, too confrontational,” Shakira added. “But be true to yourself, be genuine, and when you surround yourself with the right people, you’ll do better.”
