Family sues for $65m after London student stabbed to death in Texas

They claim property managers failed to properly screen the roommate now charged with her murder

The family of a British nursing student has filed a $65 million lawsuit against her former property managers following her death.

Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi, known as Tamilore to friends and family, was stabbed to death on 26th April while living at a student housing complex in Houston, Texas.

She was killed just days before she was due to graduate. Her roommate, 40-year-old Chester Grant, has been charged with her murder and remains in Harris County Jail.

Tamilore’s family claims the property managers failed to carry out proper background checks on Grant, who had an out-of-state criminal history including multiple arrests and domestic violence convictions in Washington.

She was found dead at the residence at 6510 Goforth Street in Houston’s south side.

“This is not someone she chose to be roommates with,” Jonathan Cox, the family’s attorney said during a press conference. “They placed him with her, and even when Tami reached out to let them know there was an issue, they did nothing.”

According to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by her family, Tamilore and Grant had an altercation regarding their cats prior her death, during which Grant is believed to have knocked her phone out of her hand and told her that she was “dead”.

Tamilore reported concerns about her safety to both the Houston Police Department and a housing employee. She also arranged a meeting with her parents and a property manager for April 26th, the day she was killed. That meeting was cancelled and never rescheduled.

Police discovered her body at the property hours after the meeting was meant to take place.

Tamilore, originally from London, had built a following of nearly 50,000 on TikTok, where she shared lifestyle videos and her journey through nursing school.

She was posthumously awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. Her family accepted the degree on her behalf during the university’s commencement ceremony.

Tamilore’s younger sister Georgina said: “A part of our family is missing, the glue that held us together.”

“We will forever love Tami, and we will never stop saying her name.”
