King’s College London student resitting all his exams due to a university admin error
He was also accused of non-academic misconduct
A student at King’s College London is having to resit all of his exams due to a university admin error.
Second year student Eric Jimenez has spoken out after he was not given his usual personalised access arrangements (PAA) for his exams in assessment period two.
Taking on TikTok, Eric shared his frustrations, saying that due to this admin error, he’ll have to resit all of his exams during the summer.

The maths and philosophy student explained that as part of his PAA, he was supposed to receive a computer as well as extra time. However, when he arrived at the exam, he was given a physical exam paper.
In his complaint to the university, shown to The King’s Tab, Eric said these allowances had been arranged in his first year. But, when he arrived to his first exam this summer, the assessment’s team informed him his PAA had not rolled on from the previous year. Although, he had been told otherwise in an email from King’s.
This left Eric “significantly distressed” during his first exam, which he started late, and he was unable to complete the remainder of his assessments.
Shortly after submitting a mitigating circumstances form, Eric was granted resits in assessment period three which takes place in the summer holidays. Meaning, he either had to change his summer plans or retake his second year.
Eric explained that retaking the year would “affect [his] future plans” as he wants to “graduate as quickly as possible and move on to something else”.

He also outlined to The King’s Tab how much cancelling his summer plans would cost him. In total, resitting his exams in the summer will cost Eric £855.09. This includes the costs of train tickets to get to his exams, as well as flight cancellations and rebooking fees, as he had planned on going abroad.
Additionally, after a meeting with his personal tutor, Eric claimed that the university insinuated he had forged his original PAA email.
“They basically think I’ve edited one line from my PAA email which says ‘yes, you have PAA this year BUT you need to reapply next year etc’ to ‘yes you have PAA and this holds for your whole programme’,” he said.
Eric explained that this left him “disturbed” as his attempts at providing evidence for his PAA were refused.
In another meeting with his personal tutor, he learned that the university was potentially “exploring non-academic misconduct procedures”. Eric then noted that he felt “discouraged” from pursuing further action to avoid being removed from the university. However, the investigation into Eric has now been dropped.
As well as his mental health, the situation has also significantly impacted Eric’s physical health. He is now struggling with insomnia due to stress and anxiety, something he has explained to the university.
Despite IT finding the original “misleading email” in his inbox, the investigation then had “hit a dead end”.
“I understand that the university is still maintaining the position that PAA did in fact send me an email stating that my PAA was interim, but that somehow this exact email arrived to me stating the opposite,” he said in his complaint.
“I just don’t really know why they went to this extent to gaslight me about my PAA email, and why it even happened in the first place. If I could ask the university something, it would literally just be – why?” Eric told The King’s Tab.
A King’s College London spokesperson said: “We take personalised access arrangements seriously and engage with our students to ensure we can provide the most appropriate and tailored exam and assessment support. We cannot go into the details of ongoing processes; however we are in contact with this student and providing support.”
