A Deadly American Marriage: Sarah Corbett is now huge on TikTok and a successful author!

It turns out even beyond A Deadly American Marriage on Netflix, Sarah Corbett is speaking out about her father’s case. The Netflix documentary shed light on the case of Jason Corbett, who was killed by his wife Molly Martens, and her father Thomas.

In the show, Jason’s two children, Sarah and Jack, were interviewed. Sarah and Jack were born from a previous marriage – Jason’s first wife Mags passed away. They spoke out about the testimony they gave at the time of their father’s murder, and in touching scenes at the end, shared victim impact statements of how their lives have changed.

Jason Corbett was killed in 2015. He was badly beaten with a baseball bat and brick. At the time, Thomas Martens said he and Molly killed Jason, as they believed her life was in danger. But, the Netflix documentary questions their motives, and also delves into claims Molly asked Jason’s children Sarah and Jack to lie, and claim they’d seen violence in the family home before. Both Sarah and Jack have since said they never saw their father be violent towards Molly.

In 2023, Molly and Thomas Martens agreed to plea deals, and were sentenced to 51 to 74 months in prison. They were released in June 2024, due to previous time served. Molly is not allowed to make contact with Jack or Sarah Corbett, due to a court order.

What is Sarah Corbett up to now?

Sarah now goes by Sarah Corbett Lynch, taking the name of her aunty, and Jason’s sister, who took over caring for her and Jack when Jason passed away. It’s believed the family still live in Ireland. Sarah is 18.

Sarah is a successful author, and an award-winning bereaved children and victims’ rights campaigner. She is one of the youngest authors in Irish history. Her books include A Time For Truth, a memoir about her loss and healing journey. “My book is about my life and my journey through the court system in America, and trying to find justice for my dad, and healing,” she said in an Instagram video from her book launch in Limerick, Ireland.

She has also written a children’s book. In 2020, Sarah published Noodle Loses Dad, which aims to help children process loss and grief.

Sarah has 23k followers on Instagram, and a further 15.6k on TikTok. Her posts are mainly to tell her father’s story, as well as sharing details about her books, and her family life now. In a recent TikTok, Sarah posted about herself and Tracey Corbett Lynch attending a book signing together, with Tracey having written a book titled My Brother Jason.

The Corbett family responded to A Deadly American Marriage on Netflix

As the show was released, a statement was posted by the Corbett family. “Participating in the Netflix documentary was important to us because it highlights the profound impact of the absence of justice we faced in the judicial system,” they said. “We are not alone in our experiences. We hope the documentary honours Jason’s memory while advocating for justice and ensuring that the voices of victims are heard, especially when the judicial system has failed them.”

The statement also called Thomas Martens “cold” and “callous” for stating in the documentary that he has “no regrets” over what he did. It added: “Jack and Sarah have to live with the consequences of his ‘no regrets’ every day of their lives.”
