All the savage reviews of Molly-Mae’s documentary which prove her break up was a PR stunt
Viewers called the documentary a ‘waste of time’
Molly-Mae had the British public hooked pretty much since she put her hair in that iconic bun in the 2019 Love Island villa. It was there that her relationship with Tommy Fury was born, and the British public were obsessed ever since. So understandably, their split in August 2024 left us quaking.
But the release of her new documentary, Molly-Mae: Behind It All, landed differently among viewers, as some questioned whether their split was a publicity stunt to promote both her new clothing line and the documentary.
Meanwhile, others praised Molly-Mae for her vulnerability in the documentary, especially whilst going through a public split from Tommy. The internet is pretty town, but here are all the savage reviews which suggest their Tommy and Molly-Mae’s break up was a PR stunt.
The context behind their split left viewers unconvinced
Many viewers of the documentary have questioned if the real reason behind the Tommy and Molly-Mae break up was a pr stunt or if it was truly genuine. A catalyst for this has been the revelation that despite popular opinion online at the time of the breakup, Tommy was not unfaithful to Molly. But the fact that Molly neglected to shut down the rumours seemingly prompted people to speculate whether the drama of it all was a publicity stunt.
this molly mae doc is making me look at her sideways, if you know your partner is suffering with addiction & depression; why didn’t she shut down the cheating rumours to stop him from getting abused & harassed for 6 months which would’ve made everything he’s going through worse?

People also questioned why a documentary that is meant to be based around a breakup, seemed to cut out any actual drama between Tommy and Molly. It’s been thought that this is another tactic for publicity and drama.

Speculation of their split being for publicity was reinforced when Molly’s fashion brand Maebe launched. Speaking about her Amazon series, Molly said: “I just think it’s bizarre that anyone would think it’s a publicity stunt. I wish it was a publicity stunt, because that would be a lot easier, that would mean my relationship’s actually fine, but it’s not.”
‘Stage-managed piffle’
Other critics have seen value in the honesty of the documentary, with some saying that while “much of it is stage-managed piffle,” it simultaneously “shows us that if you live your life on camera in the good times you must also keep feeding the beast in the bad times”.
‘Overly dramatic’
The moment in Molly Mae’s documentary where I realised this was going to be a waste of time was when she had a call with Tommy and they edited out everything that he said, and it was clear whatever he said was frustrating Molly, but we the viewers don’t get what is going on?

A general consensus seems to be that the editing has left a lot to be desired, relying on using an “overly dramatic score” over mundane moments rather than showing the real drama in Molly-Mae’s life. Many have also said that the tip-toeing around the breakup in the documentary is what was responsible for its downfall, calling it a “waste of time”.
Ultimately only time will tell if the documentary is a soul-baring story of heartbreak or simply a cash grab. If we see Molly and Tommy back together in the next few weeks, our excitement might be overshadowed by the feeling that this was all a stunt. Either way, they’ll be rolling in it, so who’s really laughing?
