Lancaster University plans curriculum updates for 2026-27

The programme will introduce updates to the design and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes

The Curriculum Transformation Programme (CTP) will be introduced at Lancaster University to update the way undergraduate and postgraduate courses are designed and delivered.

Teaching at the university, which received the highest Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), is currently under review to ensure the university’s curriculum continues to align with students’ future needs.

Input by students has been provided by surveys, stalls and workshops, as well as through student representatives, the Students’ Union and paid student roles.

Changes under development are designed to enhance future students’ learning experience and will be in place for taught subjects in 2026-27.

The changes include adjusting the shape of the academic year to help distribute assessment periods across two semesters as well as introducing minimum credit values for modules to ensure opportunities for deeper learning in every programme.

Improvements to induction and feedback processes are also in the works, with all programmes set to incorporate three key graduate attributes: Academic excellence, professional excellence, and global citizenship.

This academic year will focus on planning how these changes will be integrated into programme design. Students will have opportunities to contribute their input and will receive additional updates as plans are finalised.

Pro-vice-chancellor Professor Wendy Robinson said: “One of our major ambitions is to ensure that whatever your subject or programme, you receive a distinctively Lancaster degree, with the same level of experience and quality of outcome.”

“Student input has been integral in reaching this stage, and I’d certainly encourage you to consider ongoing opportunities to get involved.”

Opportunities for students to engage with the programme will include workshop events, faculty forums and paid roles.
