Here’s the exact reason why The Traitors this year just isn’t hitting like it did before

Something is definitely off with this cast

I hate to say it, I really do – but something about this year’s The Traitors in 2025 just isn’t hitting like season one and two did. And I know what you’re thinking: We’re four episodes in, it’s too early to tell. I disagree. In both other seasons the whole affair kicked off perfectly and I never once felt like it was lacklustre. Something is a bit off with The Traitors this year, and up until today I couldn’t put my finger on why it isn’t quite hitting like the other two did. But one TikTok has put it perfectly and made me realise why the vibes in the castle are just not as iconic as they once were.

The Faithful are not being faithful

The Traitors works because whilst people have self interest, there is a greater goal that unites all to build the prize pot. There needs to be a bond of trust from united faithfuls, and not cliques.

TikTok creator @queenbeastsays posted a video that really resonated with me, where she declared she was popping off on a The Traitors 2025 rant about why this season is annoying her that explains why it’s not hitting and gave me a lot of clarification on my mixed feelings.

@queenbeastsays Think why are you called The Faithfuls and then ask if this is a purely self interested game. #traitors #traitorsuk #thetraitors ♬ original sound – Hannah OY

“What’s really annoying me about this season of The Traitors,” she explains, “is that they have forgotten that the majority of them are meant to be the Faithful. Who do they think they’re meant to be faithful to? You’ve got your man Dan there saying ‘It’s a self interested game’, it actually isn’t. It actually isn’t a self interested game.

“That’s the whole point of the dynamic of having Faithful and Traitors, because who are you meant to be Faithful to – it’s not to yourself, because everyone’s faithful to themselves. You’re faithful to the group. You’re faithful to the team. You’re faithful to the cause, and the cause is to build the money pot to be as large as possible so that whoever wins in the end gets a larger share of the money. And the other cause of the team is to get rid of the treacherous Traitors who are against the cause of the Faithfuls. That is why they’re called as such.

“So to go through a challenge with everyone who’s only thinking of their self preservation, not even wanting to go for the money – a fairer thing would be let’s not even get any fuel so no one could get a shield. That would be the fairer option, but they’re all so self-interested  and selfish they have forgotten that they’re meant to be Faithful.

“So them going around the room saying I am 100 per cent faithful – faithful to what? Because it’s not to the game. It’s not to the team!” I mean, honestly. What a mic drop of a TikTok. You know when someone speaks every thought you have in your head? Well here we are.

There’s a serious vibe shift that just hasn’t made this season feel as essential viewing: The Traitors 2025 just isn’t hitting. And I wonder personally if this is an issue that’s just going to get worse as we go on. The more seasons of The Traitors we get, the more the next batch of the players get to see ways in which Traitors fool Faithfuls.

This basically means that every batch of players is going to be more distrustful of who they’re with than the season previously. All this just makes me fear for if the show is ever going to have that organic feeling of season one ever again? Probably not. And the chances the show can replicate the Ross and Diane dynamic of season two is slim, too.

Who knows.
