Who out of the Queer Eye Fab Five are *actually* friends in real life after all the cast drama

It’s been messier than you might imagine

Recently, there has been a lot of drama with the Queer Eye cast. The Fab Five have always seemed like the perfect friends, but recent Queer Eye revelations have had people questioning their relationships in real life.

We’ve had very public spats, and reports of more going on behind the scenes. It really looks as though our fav Netflix besties might not be all they seem. Here’s a full rundown of who is friends with who out of the Queer Eye Fab Five, breaking down all the drama they’ve had outside the show.

The biggest drama was when Bobby fell out with Tan France, and left Queer Eye

The biggest drama the Queer Eye Fab Five has ever had, and what proved they’re definitely not all friends, was the fallout between Bobby Berk and Tan France. This ended in Bobby leaving the show.

At the time of his exit, Bobby had a huge feud with Tan. They unfollowed each other on Instagram, before Bobby confirmed that he and Tan had “a situation.” Tan was the only member of the Fab Five who didn’t comment on his leaving post. Yikes.

“Tan and I had a moment,” he told Vanity Fair. “There was a situation — and that’s between Tan and I — and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.

“Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight. I will always have a very special place in my heart for him and Rob and the kids. I can foresee in six months or a year, Tan and I at each other’s house being good. The Emmys was already the first bandage on that wound.”

source claimed Bobby was “asked to leave” Queer Eye after issues with the rest of the cast, which resulted in them “resenting him.” However, Bobby has said his leaving had nothing to do with Tan.

Bobby also appeared to have drama with Antoni Porowski

It looked as though Antoni might have been involved in the Bobby situation too. It was noted around the time of his exit, Bobby also unfollowed Antoni. Not much has ever been said about this, though.

Bobby and new Fab Five member Jeremiah Brent have never spoken

Following all the drama with Bobby, his replacement Jeremiah confirmed they’re very much not friends. They’ve never even spoken. “I’ve never met him,” he said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, when asked if Bobby had given him any advice for Queer Eye.

Andy Cohen was pretty shocked by this admission, so Jeremiah added: “I think we did a panel once together. I’m not being shady. We’ve never met … Never spoken. But I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he did when he was here and what he contributed.”

Andy then awkwardly asked him if he has even spoken with Thom Filicia, the interior design expert on the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Jeremiah said, much differently to how he feels about Bobby, that he “loves” Thom Filicia. “Thom Filicia’s the best,” he said.

It’s also been reported Jonathan has caused drama with co-stars

It’s previously been reported that Jonathan has had some drama with their Queer Eye co-stars. After the Bobby story, Rolling Stone spoke to production members and “reliable sources” who called the atmosphere on set “toxic”. One production member compared the Fab Five’s dynamic to “a boy band [that] falls apart,” and said they are competitive, and “jockeyed to be the show’s biggest star.”

One person who was particularly called out for on-set behaviour was Jonathan Van Ness. It was said they were “difficult” to work with.

“Jonathan’s a person who contains multitudes and who has the capacity to be very warm, very charismatic and has the capacity to make you feel really special that they are paying attention to you,” one source said. “But at least once a day, they would need to yell at somebody. It might be something small, but there’s always going to be somebody to point out and blame and make the villain of the day.” The behaviour was said to have caused a strain with other Fab Five members.

Jonathan then broke their silence on the allegations for the first time. They acknowledged some of the specific claims such as yelling at people and said: “I could have done better.”

They added: “I think a lot of people were looking for a reason to hate me or looking for a reason to be like, ‘See, I always knew that they were a fake c*nt, and this is the proof’. My family was so supportive of my husband and my team, but I didn’t even get on social media or, like, look at my phone for three weeks.”

Karamo and Antoni have fallen out before

It’s not always been smooth sailing for Karamo and Antoni, either. Karamo revealed in an interview with E! News he and Antoni had a falling out, and weren’t even on speaking terms during the filming of season one. He said the fight was down to clashing personalities and a toxic third party.

The Fab Five haven’t been friends forever

Despite it looking to us as though the Queer Eye Fab Five have been friends forever, their on-show chemistry really us just that. In his book, Naturally Tan, Tan France said the group only first met during the auditions for the show. They only became close friends because they were spending so much time together for filming.
