Jeremiah Brent addresses where he stands with Bobby Berk after replacing him on Queer Eye

In 2023 it was claimed Bobby was ‘asked to leave’ the show amid drama with the cast

Queer Eye is back – which means we’re getting to see Jeremiah Brent in action as the replacement for former Fab Five member, Bobby Berk. If you cast your mind back to 2023 and beyond, there was a lot of drama with Bobby and the rest of the cast, and it ended in him leaving the show.

Bobby Berk announced in November 2023 that after six years he had made the “difficult decision” to leave Queer Eye. A source claimed Bobby was “asked to leave” after issues with the rest of the Queer Eye cast.

The source said: “There were many challenges with scheduling and there was a loss of interest from Bobby filming the show. The network and the cast thought it was time to bring in fresh blood. His heart was not in it and the rest of the cast started to resent him because of that.”

Soon after, Jeremiah Brent was announced as replacing Bobby in new the season of Queer Eye, which has just come out. He has taken over as the interior design expert for the group in season nine.

Ahead of the episodes dropping, Jeremiah appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and was of course asked where he stands with Bobby. “I’ve never met him,” he said when asked if Bobby had given him any advice for Queer Eye.

Andy Cohen was pretty shocked by this admission, so Jeremiah added: “I think we did a panel once together. I’m not being shady. We’ve never met … Never spoken. But I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he did when he was here and what he contributed.”

Andy then awkwardly asked him if he has even spoken with Thom Filicia, the interior design expert on the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Jeremiah said, much differently to how he feels about Bobby, that he “loves” Thom Filicia. “Thom Filicia’s the best,” he said.

At the time of his exit, Bobby had a huge feud with fellow Queer Eye star, Tan France. They unfollowed each other on Instagram, before Bobby confirmed that he and Tan had “a situation.”

“Tan and I had a moment,” he told Vanity Fair. “There was a situation — and that’s between Tan and I — and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.

“Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight. I will always have a very special place in my heart for him and Rob and the kids. I can foresee in six months or a year, Tan and I at each other’s house being good. The Emmys was already the first bandage on that wound.”
