Bored from studying? Here are some fun and festive events to take your mind off exam season

With exam season starting, we’re all looking for some ways to cool off and recuperate. So, The Glasgow Tab has put together five festive things you can do in your downtime.

Daft Friday

A post shared by Glasgow University Union (@guunion)

One of the most popular GUU events of the year, Daft Friday is a 12-hour end-of-semester party hosted at our very own union.

The black-tie dress code gives you a chance to dress up after the stress of exams, and despite the ticket sale having been, there may still be a chance to grab some tickets so keep your eyes peeled on the GUU Instagram.

However, don’t worry if you miss out on tickets, there’s always next year!

Barras Xmas Markets

Running from 21st December until the 24th, the Barras Market in Gallowgate will be hosting a free event full of festive activities such as Winter Wonderland and more.

It’s a family and dog-friendly event, perfect to take your parents if they’re visiting.

The opening hours are 10am to 5pm, except for Christmas Eve where it will be open until midnight, so head down for some festive magic.

Alchemy Festive Markets

The Alchemy Experiment on Byres Road is hosting some festive markets with local artists and brands this weekend and the weekend after, running from 10am until 5pm.

With pottery artists and jewellery makers like Olivia Taylo and Creadh Ceramics, it’s a chance to find the perfect gifts for loved ones (or yourself, we won’t tell.)

Peter Pan at the King’s Theatre

Is it Christmas without seeing a panto? If you agree, you’ll be pleased to know that there is currently a showing of Peter Pan at the King’s Theatre which runs until the 5th January.

With tickets from £13, enjoy some classic Christmas entertainment to take your mind off exams and get you into the festive mood.

Fellow Humans

This is a new social project designed to help people make friends around Glasgow, specifically alcohol-free events. It runs from the 13th to the 16th December, with a different activity focus every night.

If you fancy bauble painting or live music, head down to Partick for some sober socialising. Hurry though as tickets are selling quickly!
