Melvin reveals he had a breakdown and almost quit I’m A Celeb in shocking unaired scenes
He ended up sobbing after yelling for ‘help’ in the middle of the night
Melvin was the most recent campmate to be voted out of the jungle and ended his time on I’m A Celeb, but it turns out he almost quit the show far earlier after suffering from a complete breakdown.
Melvin revealed to The Mirror that he woke up “drenched” during the night and called out for help whilst “sobbing.” He admitted: “I had my mic on, and I was like, ‘guys, I want help.’ This guy came out like a commando…he had a light on, and he’s like ‘Melvin are you okay, come with me.'”
He continued, emotionally confessing he seriously thought about quitting but didn’t want to quit as he’d left first in Strictly Come Dancing. He added: “I found it difficult, and I thought the finish line seemed quite far away.
“I didn’t want to let my family down. And the most similar process to this that I’ve ever done in my life was Strictly and I was the first person out, and I was aware of that in my head.”
Melvin explained he felt embarrassed about crying his campmates during I’m A Celeb because he felt everyone else was being so “strong” in the jungle.
He clarified: “You’ve got people like Oti and Alan who are really strong, and Coleen, who I don’t think shed a tear once during the time when I was there. And I was like, ‘How can I sit here crying when these guys have got little babies at home and they’re just holding it together?’”

But ultimately what made him get through it all was his fellow campmates with Melvin describing how Oti came over and “reminded me of family.” He said: “When Oti came she just reminded me of family and she held my hand and I started bawling. I thought that was the worst thing ever. I was quite embarrassed.”
Melvin added: “The best thing about the camp was the people. If it wasn’t for them, I feel like I would have wanted to leave a lot sooner.”
Well, now I’m going to get all emotional too.
