The absolute wildest reasons campmates have left I’m A Celeb early over the years

Some celebs just can’t hack it

I’m A Celeb is well and truly underway and surprisingly, no one has had to leave the jungle early yet.

Every year, there’s always someone who has to walk out on medical grounds or decides to tap out.

That hasn’t happened so far, so let’s look back at all the wildest reasons celebs have left the camp.

In 2014, the GC only lasted three days before walking out because she wasn’t having a good time and didn’t expect it to actually be so hard. She thought they would at least give her a Diet Coke or a Mars bar to keep her sugar up and joked at the time: “People who murder get treated better than this.” However, she later revealed she was robbed and attacked 24 hours before leaving for Australia, so was in a “terrible state”.

Spencer Matthews

Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews left the jungle early in 2015 after just six days because he had been taking steroids before entering the camp to prepare for a charity boxing match. Initially, producers said it was fine to bring the medication into the camp, but they later found out the steroids were illegal in Australia. Spencer told them to throw it away, but the producers were concerned he would suffer from steroid withdrawal, so removed him from the jungle on medical grounds.

Katie Price

During her second stint on I’m A Celeb in 2009, Katie Price left after nine days because she was voted to do the Bushtucker Trial loads of times in a row and had simply had enough. After leaving, she said: “It’s not about the money, it’s not about winning for me – I just don’t want to be here anymore.”

Freddie Starr

Late comedian, singer, and actor Freddie Starr appeared on the show in 2011 but had to leave due to an allergic reaction that he got during a trial. It was an eating trial and the producers revealed that he suffered a “severe allergic reaction from an unknown origin,” so they never actually found out what he was allergic to. It involved eating mouse tails and turkey testicles and he smashed it, but started feeling unwell two hours later and was taken out of the camp.

In 2017, YouTuber Jack Maynard was forced to quit the camp following allegations of racism and homophobia from past tweets which resurfaced online after he entered the jungle. His publicist claimed it was “only fair” to bring him out of the show immediately as he was unable to respond to the allegations in there. He later shared an apology, saying: “I’m sorry to anyone that I upset, anyone that I offended, anyone I made feel uncomfortable.”

Nigel Havers

Actor Nigel Havers walked out of the I’m A Celeb jungle in 2010 as the trial he was voted for involved being punished with electric shocks. “I’m not up for it, I don’t do electric shocks so I’m leaving,” he said. The actor claimed he wasn’t gaining something from the show, so he “couldn’t waste another second of my life”.

George Hamilton

In 2009, American actor George Hamilton left the camp with less than a week to go because he didn’t think he deserved to win. He told fellow contestant Kim Woodburn: “Here’s the thing, I’m going to tell you what I’m thinking… they’re people who are starting careers. I’m at a point where this is fun to do. I’m not going to go head-to-head, so I’m thinking about leaving, pulling out tomorrow.”
