Here’s exactly how Joey Essex got on Selling Sunset, as pal Chelsea ‘roped him in’
There’s nothing this man won’t do for reality TV
When tuning into the new season of Selling Sunset on Netflix, many of us were probably pretty shocked to see Mr Reality TV himself pop up there, Joey Essex. During the new episodes, Chelsea Lazkani showed Joey around a property he was interested in.
Joey made his arrival on the Netflix series in season eight episode four, when he and boxer Conor Benn ran into Chelsea whilst she was out for dinner with her Oppenheim Group colleagues. In episode nine, Chelsea showed Joey a three-bedroom, four-bathroom property in Los Angeles, listed at $5.25million.
Chelsea said of Joey: “My client said one word, sexy. He’s from London, he’s moving to LA, as you know when people move to LA they want to be in the Hollywood Hills with the views and they want to entertain. He’s a single lad and wants to impress the ladies.”
It’s very obvious his appearance took place before he was in the Love Island 2024 villa earlier this summer, as Chelsea referred to him as being single and Joey was very flirty with Emma Hernan when she turned up to the viewing. Joey is of course now in a relationship with Jessy Potts, who he met in the villa.
According to MailOnline, Joey Essex got onto Selling Sunset after meeting Chelsea, and they struck up a friendship. The pair met whilst Joey was in LA, and he mentioned he was looking for a potential new home in the city.

Chelsea then reportedly “roped him into” going on the show, and set up filming with Netflix. But, if Joey’s backlog of reality show appearances is anything to go by, he probably didn’t put up much of fight.
Whilst Joey was in the Love Island villa, his cousin Chloe Sims, who has lived in LA for the last 18 months, shared more about how he got onto Selling Sunset. “He stayed with me in LA for six weeks while he filmed,” she told OK Magazine. She added she introduced Joey to Chelsea.
A source added to The Sun: “Joey might have a reputation as a bit of a dimwit but he’s not lacking in street smarts. He has become a very rich man through property and savvy investments.
