Ouch! A juicy list of all the Gossip Girl cast who don’t follow each other on Instagram

It’s not looking good for Blake Lively

Gossip Girl might have aired its last episode 12 years ago (insane, by the way) but the cast remains as relevant as ever in 2024. With Blake Lively facing the heat, Ed Westwick happily married in Italy, and Penn Badgley prepping for the fifth and final season of You – we just can’t get enough of the retired Upper East siders.

Of course, it’s not all happy families. How do we know? Instagram, obviously. It literally is the Gossip Girl of the decade. So, here’s your rundown of  all the Gossip Girl cast who follow each other on Instagram and more importantly – who don’t. Take from it what you will (you’re welcome).

Blake Lively follows none of the cast

Despite Blake never commenting publicly on the Gossip Girl cast, her following speaks for itself. She’s following 516 people, and none of them are even remotely associated with the show. Blake has recently been under fire for being supposedly difficult to work with, facing accusations of controlling behaviour on the set of It Ends With Us across social media. Even though she is actively online (with a whopping 45.9 million followers), Blake never gives much clarification to any circulating rumours.

Leighton Meester doesn’t follow Blake or Ed

Interestingly, Leighton follows everyone but the two people she probably worked with most on set. According to Instagram, Blair, Serena, and Chuck are no more. Leighton and Blake made headlines a few years ago when news broke that the pair had actually never got on; the show’s executive producer, Joshua Safran, bluntly told Vanity Fair that “Blake and Leighton were not friends”. Rumours of jealousy and arguments started flying around, with show workers later stating that the two were friendly as colleagues, but did not particularly like each other.

Leighton and Ed Westwick do not follow each other, something completely heartbreaking for Chuck and Blair fans. Although not confirmed, it’s highly believed that the onscreen couple dated in real life during filming, or at least had a little crush on each other. However, the pair have not been seen together since the show ended and probably don’t follow each other because of how much everyone wanted them together!

Leighton does follow and is friendly with Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald), Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey), Jessica Szohr (Vanessa Abrams), and Michelle Trachtenberg (Georgina Sparks). Leighton actually went on Penn’s first episode of his podcast, Podcrushed, and talked about how they even knew each other before Gossip Girl.

Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley don’t follow each other

The Dan Humphrey and Chuck Bass feud has reached real life. There’s not much to say about this pair, they have a few paparazzi pictures of them together on set but apart from that, nothing. The two have probably just drifted apart. While Penn has recently been very busy in LA working on TV shows and podcasts, Ed now lives a quieter life in London with his actress and model wife, Amy Jackson (who doesn’t follow any of the GG cast, if you’re wondering).

Ed Westwick doesn’t seem to be in touch with most of his former cast members, but he does follow onscreen best friend Chace Crawford and Blake Lively, who hasn’t returned the follow. Plus, Kelly Rutherford, who played Lily van der Woodsen, recently gave the most heartwarming speech at Ed’s wedding, saying she felt “the most grateful for our friendship and to work with you was such a gift”.

Chace Crawford follows everyone

What an angel. Just like his character, Chace is the only one holding the peace between the Gossip Girl cast. He appears to be on good terms with everyone and is the only cast member to follow everyone, even if they don’t follow him back (cough, cough, Blake).

Earlier this year, Chace talked about his first time meeting Leighton Meester and claimed he fell instantly in love with her. So cute. Just this week, he attended Jessica Szohr’s (Vanessa Abrams) wedding, despite not being at Ed Westwick’s the week before. Oh well, he can’t be there for the entire cast I guess.

Penn Badgley doesn’t follow Blake

Out of all the Gossip Girl cast who don’t follow each other on Instagram, this one is significant. Lonely boy or lonely girl? Blake’s follower list is truly lacking Gossip Girl cast members. These two dated for three years while filming the show, and even though they didn’t end on bad terms (from what we know), they still haven’t done the courtesy follow to keep the peace. Let’s just hope that they never unfollowed each other.

Penn hasn’t followed Taylor Momsen back

This is a bit of a weird one. While Penn follows both Leighton and Chace, he hasn’t returned the follow for his on-screen little sister. However, they did have a mini-reunion late last year when Taylor went on Penn’s podcast, just like Leighton did. The pictures of the two of them literally broke the internet, but he’s still not following her.

Kelly Rutherford follows everyone except Blake

This one is juicy. The icon herself, Lily van der Woodsen, does not follow her own on-screen daughter on Instagram. Even more, she follows every other cast member… it has to mean something. Kelly did previously follow Blake, wishing her happy birthday on the app and praising her success around 2019. Now, while she’s making speeches at Ed’s wedding, the internet has noticed that she follows everyone but Blake. It really doesn’t look good…
