‘Maybe I’m meant to be with no one’: All of Sam’s glaring red flags on Love Is Blind UK

Putting the ring on the wrong finger had to be some kind of divine intervention

It doesn’t really come as a shocker that Love Is Blind UK fans have been up in arms about a certain controversial figure on the show and his bright red flags. Sam has been the topic of much online debate since the first part of Love Is Blind UK season one aired, most notably for some of his strange one-liners. We’re all human and nobody’s perfect, especially on TV, but it’s not often you see such a chaotic reality TV contestant, especially outside the world of Love Island. Here’s a rundown of all of Sam’s red flags on the show.

His introductory interview: ‘I’m just a boy who wants to be loved’

I can’t lie, this is such an ick already. It sounds like a pre-rehearsed Notting Hill rip off to make himself seem fresh out of a rom-com, but I really would have preferred to have met the real Sam underneath this act. He also said he had no idea why women don’t go for him because “I don’t give off f**kboy energy,” which is just weird. After convincing Nicole to marry him, he said “I’m just a boy who wants to be loved” and that he helped her find it. To be honest, I don’t think that convinced anyone.

His outburst at Jasmine in the pods

During a dramatic scene, Sam shared some very strong feelings towards Jasmine that she didn’t quite reciprocate. He gushed: “I feel like you’re gonna give me the love and affection that I need as a person” and “you would be a big rock in my life.” I mean, it’s nice to have support but Sam made it sound like Jasmine would be his lifeline, which just isn’t what a healthy relationship looks like.

Then, when Jasmine shut it down, his outburst was totally uncalled for. She began pointing out that she felt like Sam was just telling her what she wants to hear because it sounds too good to be real, and he completely changed up on her, branding her feelings “ridiculous” and that “maybe I’m meant to be with no one”, which has got to be in the manipulator’s 101 guide.

His sudden switch up to Nicole

While confessing his feelings to Jasmine, he specifically mentioned his other connection that “doesn’t quite know what I need”, yet it looks like he didn’t need much recovery time to switch up and move on to Nicole, his “best friend” and apparent strongest connection. By the end of the same episode, he was asking her to marry him. Maybe it’s just the producers speeding up time for dramatic effect, but it all felt a little too quick to be genuine, and we can’t ignore Benaiah’s warning of course.

Sam being worried Nicole was going to be fat

Out of all the Love Is Blind UK red flags, this is by far the worst: I literally felt sick watching this bit. Sam was talking about the moment he would first see Nicole after he proposed, and described when he would pick her up and swing her around. Nicole jokingly replied “What if you can’t?” probably because they’d never seen each other in person and had no idea how the situation would actually pan out, but this sent Sam down a spiral of wondering about Nicole’s physical appearance.

That night he began to freak out with the guys and implied that he was worried about Nicole being too heavy to pick up. The guys quickly shut down the idea saying “she probably sprained her ankle or something.”

He then went on to say “I like meat, but like, that’s fine if someone’s a bit like… but that’s a weird thing to say.” He said so little yet so much. Is love even really blind at this point??

The proposal and all its cursed moments

Nicole my angel, WHY? If she didn’t see the red flags in the pods, it’s no surprise that she saw them after they first met. This skin-crawling proposal showed her just how much she would regret not listening to Benaiah’s warning. Firstly, he put the ring on the WRONG FINGER, which Nicole would later dissect as a sign. Then, he told Nicole “you’re too good for me”, which could have just been a funny joke at himself, but from personal experience, if a guy tells you he’s not good enough for you, believe him babe. Then, he said he “doesn’t care what anyone else thinks” because “Nicole is gorgeous.” Sorry, did anyone else actually say that she wasn’t? Why would you phrase it like that Sam?

And to top it all off, he says “I think I love you.” Sorry Hugh Grant but you either love someone or you don’t: I’d actually rather not hear those three words at all than hear “I think” in front of them.
