Blake Lively was ‘begged’ to cut inappropriate song from It Ends With Us but she refused to

Blake revealed the team ‘begged me to take that song out of the movie’

As if there wasn’t already enough drama surrounding the behaviour of the cast during It Ends With Us, Blake Lively revealed that despite being “begged” to remove an inappropriate decision she decided it should stay in the film regardless.

Blake Lively has already found herself in hot water with It Ends With Us fans after she was slammed for ‘forgetting’ that her character is a victim of domestic violence, and now she’s getting dragged again.

During one moment in the film, the song Cherry by Lana Del Rey starts playing, beginning when Lily is making a flower arrangement. It continues playing during a panning shot of the city and carries on when Alyssa and Marshall announce they’re having a baby together. However, the inclusion of the song was not received well by the team, and they thought it was best if it was removed from the film, something Blake completely refused to do.

In an interview with Hits Radio UK, she revealed: “I’m not supposed to be talking about this. They begged me to take that movie out – that song out of the movie. They felt like it was, like, too charged and heavy and things are still good with Ryle at that point so you don’t wanna feel that charge.”

So whilst most of the team agreed the song was inappropriate for the scene and film as a whole, she strongly disagreed, arguing: “F*ck, the moment Atlas enters, things are charged and heavy. Like there’s conflict, there’s pain, there’s turmoil, there’s tension.

“Oh my God, my soul mate, the one that got away in my life, this person who’s haunting me in everything I do and everywhere I go, is here now and we still had that connection. And you can be deeply in love with this person, but this person comes in, and you’re like, your insides are gonna be a mess.”

It seems fans agree that the song shouldn’t have been included in the film, with one user commenting: “Cherry was definitely not the right song, especially when Lana has been called out for romanticizing abuse with her music which keeps feeding that narrative.” Another added: “I love Cherry but it was not the right song choice.”
