After being Maya’s social worker, where is Cathi Bedy from Take Care of Maya now?
Maya Kowalski’s family has launched a lawsuit
In Take Care of Maya on Netflix, we’re introduced to lots of people close to the case of Maya Kowalski – including her social worker, Cathi Bedy.
Cathi is seen throughout the documentary film giving her opinion on the treatment of Maya, and what happened in the heartbreaking case of her family.
When Maya was just nine, she began suffering from severe pain in all her body, headaches, asthma attacks, lesions on her arms and legs and severe cramping in her feet. A year later, Maya’s symptoms relapsed during a hurricane, and she was in severe pain and admitted to hospital.
After her mother, Beata, said Maya had a rare condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and suggested ketamine as pain relief, she was met with suspicion and doubt. Maya was placed in state custody, and her family members were unable to see her. Here, Maya was placed under the care of social worker, Cathi Bedi.
After 87 days away from her daughter, Beata ended her life, saying in an email to family she couldn’t watch Maya suffer anymore. Just five days later, Maya was released from state custody hospital.
Where is Cathi Bedy, from Take Care of Maya on Netflix, now?
After Beata passed away, the Kowalski family launched a lawsuit against the hospital, Dr Sally Smith, and Cathi Bedy. This is scheduled for trial in September.
According to LinkedIn, Cathi Bedy is currently living in Clearwater, Florida. Her profile states she is employed at OBGYN Associates as a licensed clinical social worker.
Cathi is 62 now, and it looks as though she still works within the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
