New thriller from the writer behind The Stranger and Stay Close is a twisty murder mystery
Fool Me Once is out on Netflix in the New Year!
Guys, there’s a new mystery thriller drama from the writer and creators behind hit shows such as The Stranger and Stay Close coming very soon. Fool Me Once has got some big names in cast, and we should know by now, if a Netflix drama is based on a book by Harlan Coben, it’s going to be good.
There will be eight, 60 minute episodes in Fool Me Once on Netflix, and it is the eighth book by Harlan Coben which has been turned into a series. Here’s everything we know.
Fool Me Once on Netflix is all about a woman coming to terms with the murder of her husband
Harlan Coben’s Fool Me Once follows a woman called Maya Stern (played by Michelle Keegan), who is trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of her husband, Joe (Richard Armitage). But when Maya installs a nanny-cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she is shocked to see a man she recognises in her house. It’s her husband – who she thought was dead.
Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce leads the homicide investigation into Joe’s death while grappling with secrets of his own. Meanwhile, Maya’s niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to find the truth about their mother’s murder, several months earlier. Are the two cases connected? Fool Me Once follows these characters on a thrilling hunt for the truth that will reveal shocking secrets and change their lives forever. Joanna Lumley is Judith Burkett, Joe’s protective mother.

In keeping with previous Harlan Coben adaptations, Fool Me Once will relocate the story from the US, where the book is set, to be set on Netflix in the UK. Filming has now started in Manchester and the Northwest of England.
Who is in the cast of Fool Me Once?
Maya Stern is played by Michelle Keegan (Brassic, Our Girl), and her husband Joe Burkett is played by Richard Armitage, who you definitely recognise from other Harlan Coben adaptions, Stay Close and The Stranger.
Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce is played BAFTA award-winner Adeel Akhtar (Sweet Tooth, Ali & Ava) and Judith Burkett is BAFTA award-winner Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous, Finding Alice). The role of Shane Tessier is portrayed by Emmett J.Scanlan (Kin, Peaky Blinders) and Dino Fetscher (Years and Years, Foundation) plays Marty McGreggor.
When does Fool Me Once come to Netflix?
Netflix has announced the show will be released on January 1st, 2024. In a tweet, it said: “Mystery King @HarlanCoben is back on 1 January with crime thriller Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan, Adeel Akhtar, Joanna Lumley, and (of course) Richard Armitage!”
