Pride in Liverpool 2020 has been postponed due to COVID-19

As social distancing and self-isolation have become the norm, LCR Pride Foundation have just announced they’ll be postponing this year’s Pride in Liverpool amongst continued fears of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The celebration was due to take place on Saturday the 25^th of July 2020.

However, with no real indication of how long the government’s lockdown will last, Liverpool Pride is in limbo for the time being – and not the fun kind.

This decision will not only affect the main pride festival but will also have a knock-on effect on the city region’s annual March with Pride and Pride Sundae programme of events.

Andi Herring, co-founder of LCR Pride Foundation, said: “Knowing the importance of the annual Pride in Liverpool festival to so many people, suppliers and businesses, the decision to postpone the event has not been taken lightly.

“Since the escalation of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been in regular communication with all of our partners, sponsors and suppliers. We have also been closely following advice and updates from Public Health England and the UK Government.”

The reason for Pride’s early cancellation, despite predictions that lockdown will be over by the end of July, is that LCR Pride Foundation “usually meet in person with emergency service partners, health services and other suppliers, in order to ensure a safe, secure and well-organised festival.

Pride in Liverpool is not entirely cancelled, with the foundation announcing: “We remain committed to bringing pride to the city region this year, at a time when we can play a part in bringing our communities back together and help to reboot the city’s economy.

“We will be announcing our new date in the coming weeks, along with our annual theme and campaigns.

“We thank everyone for their patience and understanding in these challenging times and encourage everyone to stay home and stay safe.”

As the foundation are hoping to release a new date soon, along with their annual theme, you still have plenty of time to practice your makeup look and get an absolutely unreal pride outfit sorted for when all of this has blown over and we can celebrate #LoveIsLove!
