Uni of York ranks 19th in the Guardian’s best UK universities 2024 table

York has risen two places having been ranked 21st last year


The Guardian have released their official University Guide for 2024. The annual list ranks UK universities across eight categories, including student satisfaction, student to staff ratio, spending per student, value added (which compares students’ degree results with their entry qualifications to measure improvement), and the number of students with jobs or in further study 15 months after graduating.

The Guardian then combines these categories to give each uni a score out of 100. This year, with a score of 68.4, The University of York has ranked 19th, entering the top 20 having been ranked 21st in last year’s rankings.

York ranked in the top 10 uni’s across five subjects, including Children’s Nursing (5th), Psychology (7th), Archeology (8th), Nursing (9th), and History of Art (10th).

In a further 12 subjects, York ranked within the top 20: Environmental Science (11th), History (11th), Film production (11th), Chemistry (12th), Midwifery (12th), Criminology (13th), English (15th), Medicine (15th), Law (17th), International Relations (18th), Philosophy (19th), and Marketing (20th).
