Taylor Swift still acted pally with Brittany Mahomes despite backlash to her supporting Trump

Taylor Swift is getting dragged online for still being super pally with Brittany Mahomes at the US Open this weekend – despite the latter being in the midst of furore regarding her apparent support for Donald Trump and his Republican bid for a return to presidency. This has not gone down well with anyone online, even her fans are calling her out for being so visibly chummy with Brittany Mahomes, and the general sentiment is “being a Taylor Swift fan is embarrassing.”

Pictures showed Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes, the two of them being the partners of the Kansas City Chiefs players Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes respectively, well and truly still friends as they watched on at the US Open. It was suspected that Taylor Swift might distance herself from Brittany Mahomes after the backlash to Mahomes seemingly supporting Donald Trump – so much so that Trump himself thanked her for the support.

Brittany Mahomes liked one of Trump’s posts

Brittany Mahomes recently liked one of Trump’s posts on Instagram titled The 2024 GOP Platform. This post had around 20 items that Trump’s administration would bring to action if he wins the election, including one that says “seal the border” and “cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, radical gender ideology, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children.”

Mahomes has since unliked the post.

Brittany Mahomes then liked comments supporting Trump-Vance

Despite the fact the backlash saw Brittany Mahomes unlike the original post she was called out for, Mahomes then liked some comments supporting the Trump-Vance ticket.

After continuing to get called out, Brittany Mahomes posted on her Instagram story saying “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”

Trump just made a statement thanking her for supporting him

In a statement posted to his Truth Social profile, Donald Trump thanks Brittany Mahomes and said “I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country. With Crime and Illegal Immigration totally out of control, INFLATION ravaging all Americans, and a world that is laughing at the stupidity of our hapless “leaders,” it is nice to see someone who loves our country, and wants to save it from DOOM. What a great couple – See you both at the Super Bowl!”

What’s Taylor Swift said about it

Err, nothing. Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes have become close friends since Taylor started dating Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs alongside Mahomes’ husband Patrick. They’ve been pictured together hanging out a lot, supporting the Chiefs when they play. It’s suspected that Brittany Mahomes’ apparent support for Trump might get in the way of her friendship with Taylor Swift, considering how vocal the latter has been against his politics.

In 2020, Taylor Swift directly tweeted Trump saying ““After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November.”

On the other hand, Trump said of Swift in June during an interview with Variety: “She’s got a great star quality. She really does.

“I think she’s beautiful – very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually – unusually beautiful!”

What has the latest reaction been?

Erm, bad. Even from diehard fans of Swift, it’s looking abysmal. One person called out how Taylor Swift has kept quiet about a lot of political issues this year and has deemed them unsafe, but is fine with looking amicable with Mahomes.

One tweet parodied the iconic “Not even to dinner with the Kushners?” line from Project Runway, originally directed at Karlie Kloss from a contestant.

Another called out Taylor Swift for being “spineless” in regards to Brittany Mahomes assumed political views.

The most damning, mic dross tweet came from @mattxiv, who said “I don’t expect a billionaire to lead the revolution or anything I’m just confused as to why one would make a movie about standing up for what’s right at any cost only to literally never stand for anything again,” referencing the famous moment from Swift’s Miss American documentary.

It’s just not a good look.
