Wait, there’s a spooky link between Ambika Mod’s new role and OG Dex from the One Day film

Wait, it turns out there’s a really strange connection between Ambika Mod, who plays Emma in the new Netflix adaptation of One Day and Jim Sturgess, who played Dex in the original film alongside Anne Hathaway.

Basically, Ambika Mod is starring alongside Jim Sturgess in her next role, Playdate, in a weird worlds colliding of the One Day film and TV show.

Playdate is a thriller set to be released on Disney+. It is an adaptation of Alex Dahl’s novel of the same name. Also starring Holliday Granger, the drama series will tell the story of a woman who realises her daughter has been kidnapped from a playdate and a Europe wide search hunt ensues.

But in a weird cocktail of One Day adaptations, both Ambika Mod and Jim Sturgess will be acting alongside one another. Speaking about this weird coincidence in an interview with Glamour, the interviewer asks: “Next up is Playdate on Disney+, which happens to star the original Dexter Mayhew, Jim Sturgess. Did he confront you about stealing his thunder?”

To which Ambika replied: “I’m so surprised no one has asked me about this. It’s mad. We finished filming last September… He brought it up actually. He’s the loveliest, coolest man. Ever. Like, he’s so great and he’s so handsome. But he was so excited to watch it and he actually sent me a text the other day saying he started watching it and he’s loving it. I won’t read it out, but he was very positive and supportive.”

Since appearing in One Day, Jim Sturgess has been in films such as Geostorm, Upside Down, Alone Together and Cloud Atlas.
