Erm, the missing submarine is steered by a literal video game controller

So it turns out OceanGate’s 10,000kg Titan missing submarine is actually steered with a video game controller.

OceanGate Expeditions offers tours of the Titanic for $250,000 per person but the missing submarine has vanished.

Yes, you read that right. The missing submarine is actually steered by a video game controller and people are shook.

According to OceanGate, the submarine, known as Titan, weighs 10,432kg and has an aerospace-standard five-inch thick carbon fibre hull reinforced with two domed titanium end caps.

GPS is not an option when submarines dive to depths as deep as the Titan does. Instead, a special messaging system allows the crew to receive instructions from the team on the surface vessel above. Onboard, the pilot steers based on these instructions with a modified video game controller. For something that sounds sooooo techy, why is it controlled with something we used to play GTA with??

In terms of safety measures, the Titan has to cope with enormous amounts of pressure exerted by the ocean at such intense depths. It has sensors to analyse the effects of changing pressure on the submarine as it dives.

The PlayStation controller being used to pilot the Titan submersible appears to be a @Logitech Gamepad F710, available at Amazon for $30.

The controller that drives the missing submarine is a literal $30 video game one from Logitech. The Logitech G F710, which is currently available on Amazon for $30 with a 4.2/5 rating. Yikes.
