Explained: What is nerd neck on TikTok and is it actually reversible?

Hot people have major nerd neck

Loads of people on TikTok are talking about nerd neck and it’s the most real thing ever. Now I know what it is, I wish I had sorted out my posture when my mum nagged me to and I’m so annoyed I didn’t limit my screen time when I had the chance.

The term nerd neck has been around for a while and now it’s all over TikTok. Nerd neck is pretty common in adults, so here’s a rundown of what it actually means and if there’s a way to fix it.

What is nerd neck from TikTok?

Nerd neck is medically known as forward head posture and it’s a “common condition where your head is positioned with your ears in front of your body’s vertical line,” according to Healthline. Basically, it’s when your head is leaning forward instead of upright and it’s like you’re hunched over.

Forward head posture got the nickname nerd neck because it results from too much time bending toward a computer screen or being hunched over a laptop or phone. These nicknames were first reserved for gamers as they were more likely to develop it but now with work from home and being addicted to scrolling on TikTok, anyone and everyone has nerd neck.

Can nerd neck be fixed?

Thankfully nerd neck can be fixed through proper stretches, exercising and creating good posture habits.
