Nick Thompson was about to be homeless after Love Is Blind, here’s what happened next
'I had hit my absolute worst'
When Nick Thompson first burst onto the reality TV scene looking for lasting love, he likely never expected to be where he is today.
Years on from when he and Danielle Ruhl made a connection in the pods, Nick’s life looks totally different. He’s gone from a VP of marketing to applying for hundreds of jobs and getting nowhere, to literally being on the brink of homelessness.
Let’s dive into what happened to the Love Is Blind alum, and where his rollercoaster journey ended up…
Nick’s Love Is Blind story didn’t result in romance

Nick appeared on season two of Love Is Blind and found a spark with Danielle.
He was the first of the male contestants to propose, and their wedding was shown on the season finale.
While their on-screen love story seemed promising, things quickly changed off-camera.
Danielle filed for divorce in August 2022 after roughly one year of marriage. Nick later admitted that the show took a toll on him, both emotionally and professionally.
So, although the pods looked like the place to find forever, for Nick, the result was far from fairytale.
Nick was on the brink of homelessness
Here’s where things get real. Before his time on Love Is Blind, he had been working as a VP of marketing, but after his public profile soared, he encountered major professional backlash.
Nick publicly revealed that he had applied to more than 400 jobs since his lay-off, and he believed his association with the show was making him unemployable.
He shared that his unemployment benefits ran out, he cashed out his 401 (k), and he was just months away from losing his home.
On top of that, he described his filming experience on the show as “going a little crazy” due to long days on set and a lack of normal conditions.
Speaking on Rawish with Kate Eckman in 2024, Nick said: “On top of a very messy and public divorce, I lost my job, I had worked so hard on my career to get where I was and then I struggled for 10 months to find work because people just didn’t take me seriously anymore… having a relationship that ends is painful for anyone.
“Doing it when there’s a marriage involved is more painful, and then you just have the world commenting on it, as well. So, I had hit my absolute worst… I’d lost everything,” he added.

So what is Nick doing now? He’s shifted his focus from screen romance to advocacy and rebuilding.
In 2025, Nick was very close to becoming homeless, but he exclusively told Reality Shrine that he’s been working at the same stable job for a year and a half, and is now “financially stable.”
“I was at peace and financially stable. I got my first pay cheque but I almost missed my mortgage payment, I had savings but I had to cash out my 401K, it was really brutal, but I didn’t lose my home,” Nick added, revealing that he’s now “rebuilding his life.”
He also founded the UCAN Foundation (Unscripted Cast Advocacy Network) alongside other ex-contestants to support people who have taken part in reality shows and face similar fallout.
Nick now uses his platform for mental-health advocacy and speaks openly about the psychological cost of reality TV fame.
While his bankroll and job title may not look like they did pre-show, Nick is pivoting to purpose and turning his story into something more sustainable.
He might not have found happily-ever-after in the pods, but he appears committed to using his experience as a bridge for change, for himself and for others.
Plus, it appears he’s now found a leading lady in his life. Nick recently shared some adorable snaps with his partner, Carrie Staton, and they seem super happy!
