All the Love Is Blind stars who blamed their questionable behaviour this season on the edit
Ok, if you say so...
Reality dating shows love a good twist, and not just in the pods.
Between the wine, the slow-mo shots, and the dramatic confessionals, a lot can happen once the editors get their hands on the footage.
And according to a few of the Love Is Blind season nine singles, what we saw on Netflix isn’t quite what went down in Denver. Several of them have now stepped forward with the classic story of “That wasn’t the real me…”.
Nick Amato
If there’s one person whose footage caused a firestorm of reaction, it’s Nick.
In one pod conversation with partner-in-drama Annie, he appears to ask whether kids identifying as LGBTQ+ is a “fad,” and online outrage followed.
Shortly after that blew up, Nick posted an Instagram video in which he said he took accountability for how his words came across, but insisted that the conversation in the show’s edit had been “heavily sliced and diced, ” per The Sun.
He claimed the scene was meant to address the early sexualisation of kids’ media, not identity itself, and that the edit made him look like something he says he isn’t.
The edit may have taken the conversation out of its fuller context. Nick says he’s owning missteps but that the final version wasn’t exactly what happened.
Annie Lancaster
Annie was the woman opposite Nick during that controversial conversation in the pods.
She surfaced on the podcast The Viall Files and insisted she is not a homophobe, that she supports queer community members, and that the show’s edit misrepresented what she was saying.
Annie claimed that a part of her and Nick’s discussion was clipped and repackaged into something that sounded like they agreed with a “kids identifying as a fad” line.
She said: “No, I don’t think being gay is a fad, period… However, that part of that conversation… it actually was clipped from another part that we were talking about.”
Instead, she suggested the pair were talking about “over-sexualisation” in children’s programming.
Kacie McIntosh
Kacie’s storyline also drew plenty of reaction. She got engaged to Patrick Suzuki on the show, then abruptly ended things after meeting in person, with a very emotional sequence that had casting fans and social media buzzing.
In her posts after Love Is Blind ended, Kacie asked people to stop harassing her and her loved ones, and said: “There is far more to the heavily edited story than what is being aired.”
She clarified that although she had cared for Patrick, the onscreen version of how things ended “wasn’t me and my personality.” She said the love story shown didn’t fully reflect what she felt, per an interview with EW.
Kacie argued that her emotional arc was cut down to a few dramatic beats and that people only saw the “edited highlights” rather than the full nuance.
She said: “My experience on the show was great, and I know it’s a TV show and they have to edit it.”
Joe Ferrucci
Joe’s fellow cast member, Edmond L Harvey, revealed his thoughts on some people’s edits on the show.
He said on the Jump Street Podcast that Joe Ferrucci “really is a great dude,” but added: “But the edits definitely gave him a look.”
Edmond said he thought Joe was the “most attractive out of all of the guys…” and added how Joe was almost “given a character.”
The Netflix star continued to share his thoughts on Joe’s editing, adding: “He got a lot of heat…” that perhaps wasn’t deserved.
Joe’s scenes with Madison Maidenberg aren’t ones people are likely to forget in a hurry. She was sobbing, he appeared pretty drunk, and the whole thing ended in disaster.
But, as Edmond said, maybe we didn’t even see the half of it!
