Madison just dished a serious message on what things are really like after Love on the Spectrum
'Life is not a Disney movie'
Following her Love on the Spectrum stardom, Madison Marilla has not only propelled her jewellery business to new heights, but she’s also dropping videos on her very own YouTube channel, Madizen.
Madison’s journey was one we all followed as she navigated her romantic life in season three. In her first YouTube upload, she’s spilling the tea on how her Love on the Spectrum fame came about, and how she was actually asked to appear on the show a year earlier, but the timing just wasn’t right.
Madison shares a serious message
This October, Madison opens her first YouTube video with the words: “Hi everyone, I’m just giving a disclaimer that this first episode of the Madizen show is very serious as it talks about my dating journey.
“Autism is very challenging, especially dating. So, there are a lot of future episodes that are gonna be upbeat, positive, and happy, while there are others that are going to be more serious, especially as life is a not a Disney movie. And, autism is not a Disney movie.”
She welcomes people to her show and explains she’s started the channel to create awareness about autism. Madison continues: “I was never interested in dating before being on Love on the Spectrum.”
“When I was in high school and all my friends were dating… I never had an interest in it, I never understood the complex social skills involved with dating…”
She added: “I did have a crush on my friend Maddie’s boyfriend, Ben… and I felt left out when all my friends were asked to prom and I never had a prom date.”
By the time Madison went off to college, she said she still didn’t feel ready to date and thought she was “lagging behind.”
“Life is not a Disney movie”
These days, Madison says she’s “very happy that the show gave her Tyler.” But she adds that although they’re “happy and in love,” they’ve had to “compromise” along the way.
She explained how seeing Abbey and David’s love story inspired her to want to appear on the Netflix series.
“Love on the Spectrum opened my eyes up to dating and then Jennifer Cook, gave me a lot of great advice. Dating was not in my comfort zone.”
Madison continued: “I’ve had to do things with Tyler that I didn’t care for at first, like going to see a documentary… that would be in the learning zone.
“Over the last year, I’ve gotten into more crime shows and documentaries because of him, and dating has put me in the growth mindset.”
The Love on the Spectrum icon recalled feeling super lonely at prom, but now says it’s “funny looking back.” She added how she’s now “thankful” to be in a relationship these days. Detailing some of her struggles, Madison tells her audience: “Life is not a Disney movie… not all dating is going to be perfect.”
“Tyler and I, we have different personalities,” she continues.
“I may be more of a planner, he’s more spontaneous. He’s much more affectionate than I am, and it doesn’t mean we don’t get along, it means that we can work through these differences.”
Madison concluded that there’s “nothing wrong with being a late bloomer.”
She said “I believed at first dating would be like a Disney movie. But life is not like that, you go through conflict. You go through conflict and you have to deal with compromise… You have a lot more turmoil in life than you do in a Disney movie. Life is not perfect.”
