Reality star ‘thought they were going to die’ after buying fake weight loss jab on TikTok
'It was like torture'
Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace claimed she thought she was “going to die” after using a fake weight loss injection that she’d purchased on TikTok.
An investigation by Channel 4 News showed that copies of the weight loss drug Retatrutide is being sold online, despite the injection still being in clinical trials and has not currently been licensed for use anywhere in the world.
The weight loss drug is being developed by Eli Lilly, who confirmed to Channel 4 that action is being taken against the two companies selling fake or illicit versions of the weight loss drug.
A statement from Eli Lilly said: “Retatrutide is an investigational molecule that is legally available only to participants in Lilly’s clinical trials.
“Anyone purporting to sell Retatrutide for human use is breaking the law, and no one should consider taking anything claiming to be retatrutide outside of a Lilly-sponsored clinical trial.”
When Channel 4 talked to Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace about her experience, she claimed that she completely lost vision in one of her eyes, and thought she was “going to die.”
She claimed: “There were bags of vomit just lined up by my bed. I couldn’t make it to the toilet. It was just literally the worst time of my life physically.
“My vision had gone in one eye. I thought, that’s it. I’m either gonna die or I’m gonna be blind. It was just torture.”
After the investigation, TikTok and Meta removed any content related to the unauthorised weight loss drug, with Meta adding that it is “constantly working to get better at detection.”
TikTok stated that it has also banned hashtags and search suggestions related to Retatrutide, stating that its community guidelines “are clear that we don’t allow trading, marketing, or providing access to regulated, prohibited, or high-risk goods and services.”
It added: “This includes regulated substances such as products marketed for weight loss or muscle gain.”
