It’s been a month since Karen Huger got out of jail, here’s what she’s been up to
Talk about making up for lost time
Karen Huger, AKA the Grande Dame of Real Housewives of Potomac, has been on quite the rollercoaster ride in life lately.
After a DUI conviction and jail time, she’s now navigating life back in the public eye. But what’s she actually been doing since her early release? Let’s catch up…
Karen’s sentence was reduced
In February 2025, Karen was handed a two-year sentence for charges stemming from a March 2024 DUI crash, with one year suspended, per EW. The plan was for her to serve a full year behind bars, plus probation, fines, and driving restrictions.
But thanks to good behaviour and the suspension, she was released after six months, on September 2, 2025.
As of her release, she’s on five years of probation and barred from driving for a full year.
Karen “must undergo supervised probation with interlock, a system which prevents a vehicle’s engine from starting until the driver clears a miniature breathalyser test.”
Her exit from the Montgomery County Detention Center was caught on video and is a part of RHOP’s new season.
Reconnecting with family and friends
One of the first things Karen seemed to focus on post-release was reconnecting with loved ones.
RHOP castmate Ashley Darby revealed she’d checked in with her and sent flowers on Watch What Happens Live. Ashley said Karen “has been taking her time… really connecting with her family,” via Decider.
Meanwhile, other cast members have been vocal about where they hope she goes next.
Inside prison, Karen reportedly kept her signature energy. As her co-stars remarked, she was “running the roost… in a very Karen way.” She received visits from family and was focused on maintaining her strength during incarceration.

Karen has publicly acknowledged the weight of what happened. At her trial and in court materials, she referenced grief, antidepressant use, and her decision to self-medicate that night.
After the verdict, she entered a private recovery program to address alcohol and mental health issues.
She also admitted that when she watched the released bodycam footage, she “didn’t recognise that woman,” a sign of how dissociated she felt from her actions.

According to friends, Karen has been easing her way back into everyday life, and yes, she’s already had a few glamorous outings.
One of her first big appearances? A night out at a Chris Brown concert in October, where she was reportedly spotted looking relaxed and happy.
The moment quickly made its way to social media after a snap was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by @JaysRealityBlog, confirming that Karen is officially back to living her best life.
