Real Housewives star dragged after celebrating Jimmy Kimmel cancellation
She actually shouted 'yay'
Kelly Dodd has never exactly been known for holding her tongue, and this week proved no different. The Real Housewives of Orange County alum took to social media to celebrate Jimmy Kimmel’s recent cancellation news, and let’s just say, not everyone was thrilled with her reaction.
While some of her followers agreed with her stance, plenty of others thought the reality star was being insensitive, and others seemed totally confused by her take on “cancel culture.”
Kelly Dodd shares her excitement
Former RHOC star Kelly posted a video on Instagram reacting to the announcement that Jimmy Kimmel would be “indefinitely suspended” from his long-running late-night show. In true Kelly fashion, her response was less about subtlety and more about glee. She cheered the news and shouted: “Jimmy Kimmel just got fired, yay!”.
Kelly added how her husband, Rick Leventhal, would “explain” to everyone about “freedom of speech, and all the stuff…”
The RHOC alum has a long history of making bold, unfiltered comments online, and this one quickly drew attention. Just last week she had people calling her “racist” for a meme she shared comparing the media coverage of Charlie Kirk and George Floyd’s deaths.
Within minutes of her new IG post going up, her comment section filled, once again, with people’s reactions. Some of her followers applauded her for her view, while others criticised her for celebrating someone else’s career setback. It’s not the first time Kelly’s blunt delivery has rubbed people the wrong way, and judging by the backlash, it probably won’t be the last.
She explains what she thinks about Jimmy’s cancellation
So why is Kelly so pleased about Jimmy Kimmel’s show coming to an end? According to her, “You can’t just spread lies like that…”.
Speaking on the couple’s YouTube channel, The Rick & Kelly Show!, Kelly expanded on her viewpoint. She said that a lot of talk shows “alienate half their viewers.”
Kelly added: “People might say ‘Jimmy Kimmel, this was comedy’, no… Charlie Kirk was a family man, he took care of his kids, he went to church, he tried to do the right thing… he tried to have open discussion…”
Rick went on to say Jimmy Kimmel’s comments on his show were “ludicrous” and “insulting,” as well as “plain awful.” He added how he and Kelly had spoken recently about “freedom of speech,” and how “hate speech can go too far.” Rick said: “If you have a television show, you have a responsibility to your audience to be truthful and not spin lies…”
Still, in typical Kelly fashion, she doesn’t seem fazed by the backlash and appears ready to keep doubling down on her opinions, no matter how controversial they might be.
