Here’s why Drag Race stars fear for the show’s future after Jimmy Kimmel’s show was pulled
The host's show was removed after he spoke about Charlie Kirk
RuPaul’s Drag Race queens, as well as its viewers, are fearing for the show’s future after Jimmy Kimmel’s show was pulled from ABC. Kandy Muse started a conversation on social media after Kimmel’s comments about the killing of Charlie Kirk, which led to its removal.
A statement was quickly released after the talk show was pulled, which reads: “Nexstar’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show.”
They claimed they “strongly object” to Kimmel’s comments, after the host said the “MAGA gang are desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
I just want you all to know that this is literally going to be the future of television under this administration, unfortunately. https://t.co/iovRSDXvt0

Now, people are worried about the future of Drag Race, with Kandy writing that it’s “going to be the future of television under this administration, while an entire Reddit thread has been launched to discuss how “free speech is becoming a thing of the past.”
One person wrote: “With the recent “indefinite hold” (let’s be real and call it what it is: cancellation) of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, I’m scared of losing our show because it elevates and promotes queer people and views. Especially in these dark times when we need a feel good show.”
Another person said: “As someone who does not live in the US and has been following this closely, I do not think the show will survive. I honestly thought months ago that it was a good thing that the franchises exist because soon they’ll be the only places to see drag.”
Some people think WOW, the network that produces Drag Race, will move to a different network, even though Paramount has been connected to the show since it was first made. And many people now remember when RuPaul predicted this may happen.
When Donald Trump was first elected for president in 2016, RuPaul predicted the show might be cancelled and expressed that drag would have to go underground again because he said “he had seen this pendulum swing before.”
Reality Shrine has contacted ABC, Paramount, and WOW for comment.
