The severe warning RuPaul’s Drag Race stars receive before they perform on the runway
As if they even have to say this
RuPaul’s Drag Race stars are briefed before they perform on the runway, and the extreme warning they get given is actually quite wild. Producers are essentially stood right there on the side, even when you’re literally in your costume and seconds away from performing.
Yvie Oddly said on HIGHKEY! podcast, “Producers are right there, even before you go on. If they have a runway about fears or some s***, the producers are still asking you, ‘So, what are you going to do for this fear runway?'” She then went on to reveal the warning they get.
She said, “Because if you try and show d*** or t**ty hole or whatever, they’ll have to chop it. So they’re going to be like, nu uh, or if you’re trying to do a copyright character, no d*** t**ty or goofy.” However, Bob The Drag Queen said it was the opposite for him.
Bob revealed, “On my season, they never made us show them our runways. That’s why I was gagged when Manila was like, ‘I couldn’t do my tampon runway.’ When I was on Drag Race, we did not show them anything. You just showed up with your stuff and hit the runway.”
In response, Yvie said, “That’s the thing. You can still show up with whatever, but they’ll ask you the week of, like, ‘Oh, what are you thinking of wearing?’ And they will chop something, because they were trying to chop s*** for me.”
She added that, down to the season finale that Yvie won, it “looked like she had bullets on one of her outfits,” which were rubber bullets spray-painted a different colour. “They were like, ‘I don’t know, it could be too graphic for our viewers,'” Yvie claimed.
