Now they're leading a dating show
Emma and Matt Willis first met at his wedding to a Busted fan, where she was his bridesmaid. Now, they’ve been married for years, but how exactly did their love story first begin? Well, it all starts with a random reality show where he got married to a fan.
While Emma first felt a physical attraction to Matt after interviewing Busted in 2004, it wasn’t exactly the first time they’d laid eyes on each other. He already knew who she was as he saw her at an event, and thought she was the “hottest girl he’d ever seen.”
Don’t worry though, it was for a fake wedding they did for an MTV sketch, which was the first time they met, before they officially started dating. Matt was the groom in the sketch, and Emma was a bridesmaid. Talk about foreshadowing!
Emma revealed how they didn’t really speak in a Radio Times interview, and that it wasn’t love at first sight. She said, “I remember walking past him and thinking, ‘Underneath all that makeup, he’s really cute.'” She said they met on a show she co-hosted for MTV.
Matt said, “I got married to a fan and you were my bridesmaid. How weird is telly?” Emma then added: “How weird is life because we’re now married and co-hosting a show about people getting married,” which Matt admitted he’d “never thought about”.
Emma co-hosted Total Request Live on MTV. She told The Guardian, “The first time I laid eyes on Matt was on his wedding day. I was hosting Total Request Live and we did a segment where a fan pretended to get married to a member of Busted.”
“[Busted’s song] Crash The Wedding was out, so we did a little fake wedding for them [on MTV],” Emma told BBC. “I was Matt’s bridesmaid. That’s the first time I ever met him.” However, they didn’t really speak because Matt was, by his description, “weird and shy”.
They only started dating thanks to a friend of Emma’s found a way to get a message to Matt. “I got a knock on the [dressing room] door from Simon Webb from Blue,” says Matt. “He said, ‘Emma Griffiths [her name pre-marriage] is trying to get hold of you.'”
