Yacht captain forced to call police and lock charter guest in their cabin in shocking video
This is absolutely wild
There’s wild, and then there’s Below Deck charter guest wild. On a recent episode that felt more like a crossover between Bravo and Cops, Captain Kerry Titheradge found himself doing what no yachtie ever wants to do: Calling the actual police on a drunk guest and locking them in their cabin?!
That’s right. Below Deck season 12 just gave us one of the most chaotic charters in franchise history, featuring a belligerent guest, a furious captain, and a call to the authorities that left jaws on the deck.
Below Deck’s Captain Kerry had a charter from hell
Below Deck isn’t without its unhinged charter guests, but season 12 might just take the biscuit.
Enter Kelly, a friend of the primary guest, Helen Hoey, who quickly became the crisis of the charter. Excessively intoxicated, she refused food, demanded endless champagne, and repeatedly ignored safety warnings, including one to wear a life vest before jet‑skiing. Her behaviour spiralled into defiance and outright aggression.
A glimmer of the moment Kelly went off the rails and sent Captain Kerry to a place no one wants to be was seen in the show’s mid-season trailer.
When Captain Kerry observed her refusal to comply, demanding a solo watersport, jumping off the tender without a jacket, and antagonising the crew, he sternly said: “When I ask you specifically not to do something and you go right against what I say, we’ve got a freaking problem.”
Kelly’s behaviour escalated rapidly in episode nine. She mocked the vessel as “stupid” and even threatened Kerry using vague references to FBI-level connections. That was the last straw for him.
Kelly said: “I can do whatever I want. I don’t need f***ing safety. You are f***king torturing me. Don’t do that to me… You are disgusting. I can do whatever I want.”
The guest continued: “I f***ing hate everybody. They are f***ing assholes. They are f***ing Democrats.”
The moment made Below Deck history
With Kelly refusing to leave common areas, Kerry locked her in her cabin for her own safety and the crew’s. The door was manually held closed by a crew member, creating a makeshift holding cell.
Captain Kerry then made the call: French police would be boarding the vessel. It marked the first time in Below Deck franchise history that law enforcement was called during a charter due to guest misconduct.
He told Us Weekly that he “really didn’t want to call the police,” but said Kelly was “acting unsafe.”
When French authorities eventually boarded the yacht, Kelly remained contained. No arrest was made on camera, but the situation ended with a dramatic “To Be Continued…” cliffhanger, courtesy of Bravo.
Meanwhile, people exploded on social media. Many called it the most unhinged charter moment ever, some even speculating Bravo may tighten future guest screening.
Yes, Below Deck thrives on yacht-side chaos, but a locked-down guest and real police? That’s new territory even for seasoned viewers. Captain Kerry didn’t just manage the charter, he controlled the situation, prioritised safety, and made franchise history.
We’re still waiting on what happens next… will Kelly face consequences off-screen? Will Bravo address this incident in next week’s preview or reunion? One thing’s for sure: that charter will be remembered as a Bravo first and an unforgettable lesson in real-world consequences at sea.
The next episode sees the St David crew picking up the pieces after “Hurricane Kelly.”
