Here’s the real reason this RuPaul’s Drag Race champion is selling her winning sceptre
She's keeping the matching crown
For many queens, winning RuPaul’s Drag Race is the pinnacle of success. A glittering title, a crown, a hefty cheque, and of course, that iconic sceptre. But Down Under champion Spankie Jackzon is doing something completely unexpected with her winner’s loot: She’s selling her sceptre?!
Wait, Spankie is selling her Drag Race prize?
Before you clutch your pearls, know this: Spankie, AKA Blair Macbeth, said she’s doing it for a seriously heartwarming reason.
Spankie won RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under season two in 2022. Now, she’s listed her winning sceptre to raise money for a cause that hits incredibly close to home.
The drag performer is establishing a new centre called The Jackzon Effect as a creative hub for local artists, per QNews.
“I’m creating a sanctuary for performers, creatives, and wild dreams, and this is how I can make this happen. It’s not been an easy choice, but I believe in this so much. I still will keep the crown, and that’s enough for me,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
She’s using her platform for good
The decision to sell the sceptre reflects Spankie’s commitment to using her platform for more than just sparkle and stage presence.
She wrote in another IG post: “This dream, my own creative studio, has been decades in the making. A space for art, sweat, joy, connection and inspiration is now real.”
With an opening bid of NZD $3000, the sceptre is available to anyone willing to make a meaningful contribution and snag a piece of Drag Race history in the process.
Spankie wrote in an update: “I’m still selling my RuPaul’s Drag Race winner’s sceptre, private bids are currently at $5K. If it’s not sold by the weekend, it’ll go to public auction. If you want to own a piece of Drag Race herstory and help finish this dream, message me. I’m doing this because it’s a sign of everything I overcame to get here and now it’s going to make other people feel like a winner too.”
As of July 27, the sceptre was officially sold! Spankie updated her followers on Instagram and confirmed she’d secured the $10K she needed.
It’s not every day a Drag Race winner parts with their hard-earned bling, but Spankie Jackzon is showing the world that true royalty lies not in what you own, but in what you’re willing to give!
