Ginger Minj reveals what she plans to do with her whopping $200k All Stars 10 prize money
It's wildly wholesome
Ginger Minj’s All Stars win is certainly causing a stir this summer. The RuPaul’s Drag Race star 18 queens have been competing for weeks to bag not only a life-changing sum of money, but a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame, of course. Now, the dust is settling after Ginger Minj’s epic win, and she’s got some major plans in the pipeline…
Ginger Minj’s win was kind of controversial
Ginger Minj’s win on All Stars 10 sparked some fierce backlash from fellow contestants who accused the show of favouritism.
Despite delivering strong performances and ranking first in the finale’s ‘Rate-a-Queen’, many saw the victory as influenced by production bias, labelling it a “witch hunt” against other queens, per Entertainment Weekly. Several drag queens publicly questioned the All Stars season 10 outcome, per Out.
Ginger Minj addressed the criticism head-on, stating that RuPaul “never had an issue” putting her in the bottom in previous seasons, and said she simply focused on delivering her all, via EW. Despite the drama, critics also celebrated a monumental milestone: Ginger became the first Latina and plus-size queen to win an All Stars title. It marks a progressive win that resonated deeply within the drag community.
She’s got big plans post-show
Controversy aside, Ginger Minj is likely buzzing about her win. She’s now sharing some of her major plans post-All Stars.
Speaking to Parade, she explained some of the exciting things potentially on the cards.
Firstly, she dished on a movie role she’s bagged: “I just booked a starring role in a Universal Pictures film, which is really exciting for me… It has not been announced yet. I can’t say what it is, but I will say that it is being directed by Adam Shankman, who I have loved forever. Everybody’s going to get to see me do what I do best. I’m going to be fun, I’m going to be funny and I’m going to get to sing and dance.”
Adding to her growing portfolio of work, Ginger Minj also said she’s “fielding a couple of Broadway offers right now.”
She added: “Everything’s looking up. Everything’s really exciting… I’m about to hit the road with Hocus Pocus Live with Jujubee, Sapphira Cristal and myself.”
When it comes to how she’s celebrating her win, Ginger Minj said:
“The morning after I won, I took the crown to Universal Studios and did a photo shoot with Elphaba and Glinda. And then I spent the entire day just riding roller coasters with two dozen of my favourite people in the world.”
And, she’s got some really wholesome plans for the $200,000 prize money. She explained: “I take care of my whole family. In our house, there’s me, my husband, our friend Michael, my mom, my sister, my youngest nephew and three dogs. So I have some home repairs that need to be taken care of. I got some debt that needs to be paid down, and then I’m going to take that money and get a place in LA so that I can be more present.”
