Oh god, Pepe really oversold his basketball career because the actual reality is far from it
Iain Stirling's jokes about his gameplay were savage
Pepe Garcia deemed himself a basketball player before Love Island USA, but the awkward truth is he kind of oversold himself. He spends most of his days in the gym or tattoo studio – but that basketball career? Not quite as snazzy as it first sounded.
Um, Pepe Garcia played on the basketball court twice
Before Love Island USA, Pepe Garcia was a 6ft 3in point guard who played at Los Alamitos, Cal State Fullerton, and in European leagues. He was a bench player at Cal State Fullerton, only making it on the court in two games across two seasons for nine total minutes.
He was meant to play in the 2021 NBA draft, but went undrafted. Pepe then had some success when he ventured abroad, playing for a third-tier professional basketball team in Spain, called CD Enrique Soler Melilla – for just one season!
Pepe was in the league for two years until 2023, and averaged about 5 points, 33% shooting, one rebound, one assist, and one turnover in 12 minutes per game. In basketball terms, that’s unfortunately not deemed great for a player.
Putting it simply, Pepe is better at shooting hoops than the average player, but on a professional level, he kinda oversold himself. He also claimed he owns a gym, but seems to be spend most of his time training people in other people’s gyms.
He really gave it the big one on Love Island USA, saying, “There’s a reason someone played pro and someone else didn’t.” Even narrator Iain Stirling savagely said that both Pepe and Chris‘ most viewed game was on the show!
His ex-girlfriend, Danielle, recently claimed Pepe told her he had to work extra hard to give her the life she wanted. However, he eventually told her, “You’re going to have to work hard for it because I can’t afford it on my own,” and they later broke up.
