Bachelorette’s Gabby Windey claps back at ‘wild’ comments – ‘Yeah, my DNA totally changed’
ABC’s The Bachelor propelled Gabby Windey into the spotlight. After ending the show as co-runner-up with Rachel Recchia, the went on to appear as joint leads on The Bachelorette. Gabby has since appeared on more reality TV shows including Dancing with the Stars and now The Traitors US.
As Gabby joins the likes of Dorinda Medley on The Traitors this January, she sits down with Nikki Garcia on SiriusXM’s The Nikki & Brie Show. The Bachelor franchise seems to have made its mark on a lot of its cast members, some are reeling from heartbreak, while Gabby Windey jokes it “changed her DNA.”
Gabby Windey is unapologetically herself
Bachelor viewers first met Gabby four years ago when she was vying after the heart of Clayton Echard.
These days, she’s loved up with Robby Hoffman. She came out after The Bachelorette and, judging by the looks of her Instagram page, she’s happier than ever in her romance.
Speaking of where she’s at nowadays, Gabby tells Nikki: “Most people go on reality TV watching what they say. You know, they’re very conscious, but I do the opposite.”
“I probably need to reel it in a little bit, but it’s like, we’re making TV here. I got one chance, but it’s scary that they’re getting the gossipy moments because we were in a corner alone just talking sh**, which I feel like people will see a lot of, but also like iconic. I feel like setting the tone,” she adds.
Speaking of Gabby’s casting on The Traitors, Nikki asks: “You haven’t been on TV since coming out and you know, my thing is is why it feels, I think, a bigger deal with you than anyone is because you were a bachelorette, right? Do you feel like there’s gonna be anything with that ’cause no one’s seen you since, which it’s so funny ’cause then people, I love when they go, ‘Oh, she’s the same person.’ Yeah. No sh**. What do you think? I mean, was she like growing wings? You know what I mean?”
Gabby jokes back in response to people’s “wild” comments: “Literally. Right. Yeah. My DNA completely changed.”
The reality star continues to explain how she feels “more confident” these days: “Yeah. I think if anything, I feel like since I’ve been dating Robby and kind of like whatever, explored my sexuality, I feel like I’m just more confident because it already allows you to be different and you have to own it and it’s been like such a great experience for me, so I feel like now, this season more than ever, I’m really leaning into femininity and the strength of a woman.
“I feel like that’s a huge theme I think for this season, ’cause we had really strong women and lots of gays, which is nice, so I feel like yeah. They’ll see a different side of me, but I feel like it’s gonna be more empowered.”
Bachelorette star accused of faking her voice
It turns out people’s comments can get even wilder as Gabby also says she’s been accused of “faking” her own voice on TV.
She tells Nikki how she was “raked over the coals” for her voice while on The Bachelorette.
“People who don’t know me… They’re like, ‘Why does she talk like that?’ and I’ve even met people in real life that are like, ‘We thought your voice was fake,’ and I’m like, ‘How do I fake a voice?’ I’m like Elizabeth Holmes trying to be like Steve Jobs, so I’m like already preparing for that, which is just gonna be so annoying…” she explains.
