Culinary Class Wars follows 100 chefs, in which the hidden masters challenge the star chefs, fiercely competing to become the best in Korea. However, fans are convinced the whole show is fake.
Netflix has taken inspiration from its reality show, Physical 100, and turned it into a cooking bonanza. Culinary Class Wars was going so well until fans picked up on a major change in episode 5.
Culinary Class Wars hailed ‘fake’
Culinary Class Wars has been suspected as being fake, especially as black spoon chefs appeared to get picked to come back more than the white spoon team. However, not all fans think it’s staged.
When the black spoons team suddenly started to win, when they’d been failing against the white spoon team until episode 5, many viewers were led to think the entire production is set-up.
One fan said, “I thought that was awfully fishy too how all of a sudden the black spoons started winning to be near equal to the white spoons. I hope it’s not fake though as I do enjoy the show.”
However, the way it is shown is not always the same order in which scenes were filmed. Editing plays a big part in reality shows on Netflix, which can help build suspense for viewers.
Although the competition could potentially be dramatized for entertainment, the cast are genuinely top-rated chefs who cook for a living, which makes the main focus of the show a reality.
GRV Media and Reality Tidbit have contacted Netflix for comment.
Netflix fans notice sudden change
Fans started to notice that, on episode 5, suddenly all the white chefs started losing, even the ones that were consistently praised for being very talented. A Reddit thread saw them come up with a theory.
One viewer said, “My theory here is the producers prepared the next competition to have a close number of each team but the white chefs were too good and there’s gonna be a big gap between the numbers.”
They added, “So they intentionally kicked them [out] regardless of their dish. Plus giving the two judges the ability to bring back two chefs and they both pick black [spoon] chefs, ignoring the really good ones.”
