Though some House of Villains fans might be familiar with Teresa Giudice’s time behind bars, there’s another cast member who also had a brush with the law.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey, neigh, the entire Housewives universe, has few cast members as iconic as the ever captivating Teresa Giudice. Not only has the star stood centre stage through the highs and lows 14 seasons, but fans say the show would not be as successful without her.
Teresa Giudice served 11 months in jail
Teresa, who earlier this month shared advice for a fellow housewife, is set to join the ranks of House of Villains amidst her continued work on the Housewives of New Jersey.
Teresa Giudice’s legal trouble began in 2013 when she and her husband, Joe Guidice, were indicted on federal fraud charges. Come 2014, the celebrity couple was incarcerated on charges of mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud.
“On one hand, I see you’re a savvy businesswoman. But then you’re going to tell me you don’t know how to cooperate with probation? Full disclosure of your financial assets was a requirement. The lack of transparency, that’s what offends the court,” judge Esther Salas told Teresa at the time.
“For a moment I thought about probation. I don’t honestly believe you understand or respect the law. I need to send a message. In the eye of the law, it doesn’t matter who you are. There are consequences to pay.”
The New Jersey icon was released from jail in 2015, with Joe Giudice remaining behind bars until 2019.
Despite the hardship she experienced in full view of the world, Teresa has not let her prison time hold her back. Besides appearing on more reality TV shows, she’s also offered advice to other jailed celebs.
Richard Hatch served a combined 60 months
Richard Hatch, the very first winner of Surviver Borneo, is also joining the House of Villains season 2 cast. Though other cast members have been arrested here and there, Richard has been embroiled in nasty legal battles since 2005.
Though his first brush with the law was in 2001 over domestic abuse charges, two days of hearings saw the Survivor winner be aquitted of both the sentence and conviction.
His big battle came in 2005 when he was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of tax evasion, one count of filing a false tax return, two counts of wire fraud, four counts of mail fraud, and one count of bank fraud.
As a result, Richard served 51 months in jail over not disclosing approximately $1.4 million in income. Just two years after being released in 2011, Richard was jailed a second time for nine months after failing to amend his 2000 and 2001 tax returns.
