Ethan and Olivia Plath announced their divorce late last year after five years of marriage. The two appeared to split amicably, both sharing posts to social media echoing the same message. But, it doesn’t mean the break-up came without heartache, Ethan expresses how he’s had a “year of pain” on social media.
Welcome to Plathville first kicked off in 2019 and its not just Ethan and Olivia who endured a marriage breakdown on the TLC series. The Plaths lives have been filled with moments of drama across the five seasons to date.
Ethan and Olivia Plath divorce
In October last year, Ethan and Olivia Plath shared they were going their separate ways after five years of marriage.
During season 5, which aired in December, fans could see the two talking about the future of their relationship. Olivia also took a trip to get some clarity on her marriage during the last season.
The TLC couple had officially separated in early 2023 before finalizing their divorce in the Fall.
The two follow in Ethan’s parents’ footsteps as Barry and Kim Plath also divorced two years ago.
Ethan’s ‘year of pain’
Taking to Instagram on his ex-wife’s birthday, Ethan shared how he’s been having difficulty coping in life since their divorce.
Sharing two photographs of himself in the same spot, but two years apart, he wrote:
“Same car, same place, same person. April 2024 vs. April 2022. It’s amazing what pain will do to you! So many times this last year I’ve wanted to quit and give up but I haven’t and I think life is making me stronger.”
His words prompted support to flood in from his sister, Moriah Plath, who commented on the post: “Pain does change you and it’s never easy but I’m proud of the man you’ve become through it! Love you so so much Ethan!”
Many added how they were “Team Ethan” in the break-up and shared words of support. But, some fans also said they “like them both,” commenting: “You and Olivia married young and instead of growing together you guys grew apart and desired different goals in life let’s not drag either of them for that. Olivia had different plans so did Ethan…”
