Dr Pimple Popper sees patient James who suffers from huge clustered lumps on his leg and his lower abdomen. The problem started after an accident when he was just eight years old, and since then the bumps have got bigger and worse, as he describes them as looking like a ‘dried up brain’.
The TLC show is a treat for popaholics but may be a miss for the faint-hearted. For years Dr Pimple Popper has been popping, squeezing, and removing all the weird cysts and lipomas patients find on their bodies. However, there are some extreme cases even she’s not qualified to fix, like James’ huge clustered leg lumps.
Dr Pimple Popper James leg lumps
James has ‘mysterious growths’ on the back of his legs and his lower abdomen. The problem began when he was eight years old, and a hit with a baseball meant he had to have surgery on his lower abdomen.
However, afterward, he started growing lumps on his body, which started getting bigger and bigger. At the moment, it’s close to 5lb.
He then developed one on the back of his leg, which started out as just a pimple, but then started getting bigger and bigger. It now has many crevices in it, which he describes as an ‘old dried up brain’. “It’s like having a bowling ball stuck on your leg,” he says.
James then takes a trip to see Dr Sandra Lee, who is completely stumped about what it could be. The doc explains there’s a condition called ‘Elephantiasis Nostras Verruciformis,’ a rare form of chronic lymphedema.
Unfortunately, Dr Lee can’t help this time
Although Dr Lee is a magician at what she does, unfortunately, there are some things her expertise doesn’t stretch to.
After observing James’ leg lumps, Dr Pimple Popper took a biopsy and found out the patient had Lymphedema.
“The lymphatic system is responsible for taking the toxins, or the trash out,” she explains. However, as James’ isn’t working properly, he has a build-up of lymph fluid causing the swelling and bumps.
“Even if we were to remove all those growths, they’re going to come right back,” the doc explains. The fluid needs to be properly drained out, but unfortunately, Sandra isn’t the person who can do that for James.
Instead, she puts him in contact with a lymphatic specialist and in the meantime, advises the patient to get something to vibrate the area to bring the drainage down.
Although she wasn’t able to fix the problem herself, James is “extremely excited” with the information he’s been given, and feeling more hopeful towards the future.
