Barrister Sarah and ex-military man Dan are matched on First Dates, and their date is certainly memorable. They both travelled all the way to Bath from London, but going into dad joke mode might be putting Sarah on edge. Within minutes, Sarah is desperately sipping on her wine awkwardly.
“Gritty and cheap” is how she described her hometown – and Dan said it sounds a bit like his whole life. The First Dates match may not be perfect, but the two found a common ground that was truly heart-warming. Sarah opened up about the moment she found out her friend Emma was murdered.
Who is Sarah on First Dates?
Barrister Sarah, 51, is planning to put herself out there.
Sarah wears an engagement ring on her middle finger, which she calls her empowerment ring. Now, she’s looking for an emotionally available and intelligent man.
She “spends far too much time helping people and not enough time being helped” while living in Brixton, London. She specialises in child protection law and always knew she wanted to do a job that made a difference.
Her life took changed trajectory when she lived in Tokyo, after receiving a call that her friend, Emma, from school was murdered by her husband.

She dedicates her life to Emma
Sarah revealed that, when she was 21 years old, the murder of her friend Emma made it hard for her to trust men.
“When Emma died, the worst thing that can happens happens,” she opens up on the date.
“I don’t want Emma’s death to be forgotten. Ever since then, my life has been dedicated to doing work for her, all of the domestic abuse work I do is for Emma,” Sarah added.
She’s “built up walls” and “became resilient” as a result of her friend’s death.
“Well-behaved women do not make history,” Sarah told her date, Dan, who applauded her for her life-changing work.
Dan is the ‘King of Dad Jokes’
Long awkward pauses is something Dan often faces during dates. Like Sarah, he’s also a 51-year-old living in London, and hopes he will finally meet his “life adventurer” on the Channel 4 show.
He works in insurance, jokingly telling Sarah he hopes she isn’t a banker. Dan admits his default mode when he gets nervous is to tell dad jokes but already warned his date wouldn’t enjoy his awkward pauses.
They went for several more dinner dates and appear to be happier than ever!
